Last year convinced me that there’s no such thing as a decent supermarket mince pie. Not Aldi, not Lidl, not anywhere - and that includes M&S and Waitrose. Home made all the way this year, with no inferior interlopers!

Am I the only one still with some left from last year...? I've a stollen, a pack of mini stollens, 2 chrissy cakes and 12 mince pies sat under the stairs...
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.

Oh aye, I've got a full size pud and 6 mini ones. Mind that's deliberate so we're always eating a year behind, once they've properly matured.

I've several small puddings from last? year.....

My bad- glace cherries in Aldi are actually £1.45- but still cheaper than Tesco!

Jars of mincemeat in stock- don't remember price!

I take no credit for them……. I’m fortunate enough to have a wonderful wife who loves cooking and hates supermarket produced food, particularly Christmas stuff. Home made mincemeat in the mince pies, home made Christmas cake, and home made sausage rolls with sausage meat from a local butcher. Even the stollen last year was home made. The puff pastry is bought in though - even chefs do that! Has to be all butter though, and Waitrose is the only place that sells it these days.

She’s highly offended if I go off-piste and buy supermarket mince pies, so why would I upset her?  ;)

I don't think I even had a mince pie last year.  I think we bought some but my OH has a food hoover super power so I have to be pretty quick to get anything.  I know I bought mini stollens but fairly certain I never got any of those either.  Not a fan of the puddings so that's not a problem.  And besides we had the minor issue of a mostly non functional kitchen last December which made things a tad tricky.

Shortbread is purchased year round and while I enjoy it it's not a patch on my mom's.  Sadly she's not up to making them anymore.  Hers is a very simple recipe (which doesn't translate for the UK unfortunately) but involves putting the dough through a cookie press to end up with cookies the size of a 10p coin.  Each with a tiniest slice of glace cherry on it.  There would be hundreds of them.  Wonder if I can convince anyone to make some for me next week when I'm visiting that way.....

Aldi Munch Bars - these disappeared from my old local Aldi some while ago, and I've been reacquainted with them with the opening of the new Aldi.   They are like Cadbury's Brunch Bars used to be before they got really small.

And now they seem to have disappeared from the new Aldi...   :(
