Good and Bad Buys at Lidl and Aldi stores (***Please don't expire***)

Well done @Rosa_Damascena! This coincides with me finding the Aldi Moser Roth 70% cocoa back in stock for the first time in weeks. It's 5 x 25g bars in a pack.3

With you on that. And definitely you end up (at least, I do) eating rather less than if it had been one of the big brand milk chocolates.Rosa_Damascena said:
It's taken about 3 weeks of nibbling away at it, but I have finally developed a taste for the dark side!Rosa_Damascena said:
Strangely enough, after repeated exposure to the smallest amounts over the past week or so I am getting used to it. I cannot say that I love it but I don't find it quite as objectionable now. Have persisted on your recommendation @Brie.Rosa_Damascena said:
I can just about tolerate Bourneville. The rate I'm going I shall be 80 and gummy before I appreciate 70%maman said:When I was a child, my mother ate Cadbury's Bournville which was what was accepted as dark chocolate.
Over the years, my tastes have become less and less sweet. I now find 70% cocoa is just what I enjoy for a chocolate hit and I only have a minimal amount.
I tried a bar of Bournville a few years back and it was disgustingly sweet to my current tastes.
So you can see why I'm disappointed that the high cocoa content bars have disappeared from Aldi. I'll be buying from Lidl while it lasts. 🤞
ETA: had another nibble of this and it remains unpalatable. It's only fit for dilution in some capacity!
Still can’t resist Cadbury’s though - even though I know it’s poor quality, low cacao, high sugar, junk!2 -
I don't normally buy very cheap ready meals - they often aren't very nice, but I got the Lidl frozen Spaghetti Bolognese (85p) to see what it was like, and it was excellent. It's one of those things that couldn't be made at home for the money or the quality of the end product.

@Cornucopia
I must admit we'd occasionally buy the Aldi or Lidl frozen dinners (beef with gravy, veg, mash) which were very inexpensive for MiL when she was living with us. I felt bad about being so cheap but, bless her, she hoovered them down pretty quickly so I assume they weren't dire. She actually seemed to have more problems with the Tesco ones that were about 3 times the price. Likely because they had more fat, for pretty, which meant a bit more gristle, which she couldn't manage. Obviously she loved it when we were doing a proper all round roast dinner with all the trimmings but that wasn't possible too often.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. They're not the cheapest but DH enjoys Aldi macaroni cheese. I can't stand the stuff so it's his treat when I'm not home for dinner.1

Aldi chicken breasts 1kg are down to £5.49 now which makes them a fair bit cheaper than the other chicken fillets or breasts. Looks like a permanent price reduction which is good. I think the cheapest pre COVID they were was £4.50 a pack.3

My local Aldi had all the self checkouts closed and off line at 9 this morning, but 3 normal tills open.1
-
At my Aldi, they're in the habit of only having a few self checkouts available. They put a closed sign on the others. They don't seem to be out of order, which was my original thought when it first happened. I believe there's an optimal number a single member of the is able to watch for shoplifting alongside helping out when people need bags or the machines are being awkward.2

LIDL ALERT!!!
Well I call it false advertising but others may disagree.....
So in Lidl today and I spotted that they had Clarks Maple Syrup. £1.99!! Well it was a smaller than usual bottle but that's ok - I know there's issues with the maple sap harvest so maybe they've gone for smaller bottles.
Picked one up, turned it over and the contents are like water. This is not syrup. Looked at the contents and it's 25% maple syrup, and the rest is carob syrup, and fruit sugar etc etc.
So be warned. This was in the specials aisle, not where the jams and syrups normally live. Clarks is a known brand so I'm really disappointed both in them and even more in Lidl. Clarks label was a bit clearer about what it was but the headline poster from Lidl was MAPLE SYRUP but it's not.
