Meanwhile over at Asda......OH came home with a 4 pack of baked beans. I noticed that they said "reduced sugar" which always makes me suspicious. And yes it means that they have sweetener of some sort rather than sugar. And I hate sweetener. But these were fine. Didn't clash with the wine at all.No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.1 -
This peri-peri sauce is my favourite Lidl purchase. I use it most days for chicken wraps and feel like I am eating in Nandos. So cheap too!

I nearly caved the other evening by picking up a bar of Christmas cake. I don't know why I put it back on the shelf - feeling a touch of regret this evening! - but I did note that there didn't seem to be any mince pies on display. No man is worth crawling on this earth.

I've noticed too that there doesn't seem to be as much Christmas stuff as usual in Aldi @Rosa_Damascena. But I suppose it's early days yet so perhaps after halloween it will add more.
I have bought my favourite chocolate marzipan and DH has eaten his way through some boxes of stollen bites. No sign of cherry liqueurs yet. ☹️3 -
Very disappointed in the pot of basil I got last week from Aldi. Normally I buy from Lidl or, failing that, Tasco. But neither have had any for a while so I was pleased to see some at Aldi and way cheaper than the other 2. Well now I know why. Normally I buy a pot and it will last a couple of months - I have it on the kitchen window sill, water it every few days, pluck off leaves as needed and it keeps growing. This one from Aldi is already half dead and has no leaf buds so I doubt it will last more than another week at most.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. I grew my own from seed this year (cinnamon basil) and the two pots that I kept for myself have been very prolific but the plants have died over the last couple of weeks (they are kept outside), but this was only to be expected.
My coriander plants have gone to seed, but my oregano and thyme are still doing well (perennials).2 -

I've never managed to grow basil from seed - but I'm also a pretty rotten gardener in general!! I do have a lot of thyme in the garden is we use it regularly and it is pretty hard to kill. That and rosemary and lavender. Didn't know that oregano was a perennial - will have to look for some next spring to put in somewhere.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. I'm going to put my oregano (greek) pot in a shed in about a month's time (and the thyme pot), hopefully they'll survive ... https://www.gardenersworld.com/how-to/grow-plants/how-to-grow-oregano/..
One naughty admission I do use dried basil leaves and it can be very cheap from Amazon. I bought a 1kg bag ('Old India'/Amazon seller) a couple of weeks ago for £9.2 -
I use dried basil for some recipes but fresh works far better for others.
I have a basil plant (plants) still going strong from a YS pot I got from Sainsburys in May. I split the original plant because they're too crowded in the original pot and have since taken several cuttings and rooted in water before planting in new pots. So I have the original plant and new ones too IYSWIM. 🤔
