..always thought "admin fees" were a bit of a con really, the selling price should be the selling price. Although I noted recently that some insurance companies are doing the same thing. I got a renewal premium I was happy with as the increase was around inflation so happy to renew, then when I checked they had taken out another £25 for "admin fees". I did call them and got my money refunded.
They're a total con and should be banned.

    I agree.
Many years ago new cars were advertised at a price that did not include "on the road" costs and the rules were eventually changed so that the headline / windscreen price had to be the OTR price.
I don't think the same rules apply for used cars as they did not used to have this type of "inflation" - as that has changed, the rules need to be aligned.
BUT, there is always a lot of negotiation in the case of most cars, whether new or used.

They look ok, that particular dealer wants £150 on top for admin. Why don’t they just stick it on the price to start with
Given list on a new one is £26k after the kickbacks, and discounts will not be in short supply, I'd want to see cheaper than £8.5k below list for 18mo old, even if it is 6k miles. Ex-rental?

    2019 Kia e-niro is about £30k.
When did Kia make it to the luxury list?

When they launched a car that at one stage had a 12 month waiting list. At the time there was very few alternatives.

Budget is not really an issue.
Something like an X5 but not a tank.
Probably around 3 years old or so.
    Happy with diesel or petrol.
Would just like something comfortable, decent interior , probably 35+mpg.
Lexus RX - Had one as a loan car years back, all I can remember was how nice it felt inside, and how smooth the drivetrain was. If it was an EV I would have bought one on the spot. Been a Lexus you know will be reliable, I remember getting around 35mpg in town.

No idea how much they are now, but 50% at 3 years should mean around £20k now??

Depends on what you are used to I guess. It's more luxurious than our last car, which was a Mercedes A class 😅 Admittedly it was about 15 years old...
  • Thanks for the suggestions.
It would appear that there are not many fuel-efficient luxury mid-sizes !
The Lexus looks interesting though ...

to the OP - I would say that the 2 priorities luxury and fuel efficiency are in most cases not compatible. Either one or the other. I drive a Nissan  X-trail 2018 model; plenty of toys and does 40mpg. Not flashy but easy to drive and get in and out off.

Are you confusing luxury with prestige? A top spec Kia is probably a nicer place to be than a bottom spec BMW, but less likely to impress the neighbours.  I say this as someone who went from old Jag to new Skoda; there was some difference (particularly in the ride quality) but nothing like as drastic as you'd expect, the Skoda has more toys, too.
