We recently got an EV and signed up to Octopus Go in August, so we could charge it overnight. We've been waiting for a solar install (4.4kW panels + 5.2 kWh battery) since late spring and it has just been scheduled for the end of the month. I was under the impression you could use Octopus Go with Outgoing, but seems not to be the case, either I missed it, or it has changed since they raised the outgoing rate to 15p. We're not eligible for intelligent Octopus.

Around half our electricity usage since we got the EV goes to charging it. Given we would be charging the EV, and could top up the battery, overnight, are we likely to be best off sticking on Go over the winter and dumping any surplus solar, perhaps through Scottish Power at 5.5p, then switching the outgoing to Octopus in the spring?

I don't think that's ever been the case. It certailnly wasn't true when I started this thread in May last year.

Can you not have the 4.1p export rate with Go?

    Yes you can.
I thought of mentioning that but decided it would just muddy the waters, and was a worse deal than 5.5p with SP :)

Definitely a strong correlation between wind generation and the Outgoing Agile tariff.

Yep, a breezy winter will mean the Outgoing Agile payments are low but the Agile rates for import follow the same pattern too.

This is when a battery is good, fill it up cheap at lunchtime on dull days and no need to pay the 33p rates during the evening peak.

    Bumping my thread ...
With day-ahead wholesale electricity under £120//MWh (12p/kWh) since the second week of April, and under £100/MWh (10p/kWh) for most of May, Octopus with their 15p/kWh Fixed export tariff are paying households more than the wholesale price for their surplus electricity.
How long do we think it will last?
(It makes no difference to me personally, I'm still on deemed FIT export earning 2.42p/kWh generated.)
