    Octopus Outgoing is now 15p/kWh from Tuesday.
    Is this for non agile customers? I'm finding all their rates confusing. I've just applied for theirs seg at 7.5.

    Octopus have at least four export tariffs:
    - Outgoing Fixed, was 7.5p/kWh but soon to be 15p/kWh;
    - Outgoing Agile, which varies every 30 minutes but has recently been over 20p/kWh almost all the time;
    - SEG of 4.1p/kWh for those people who don't qualify for Outgoing; and
    - Tesla Energy Plan, currently 26p/kWh for both import and export but needs solar PV plus a Tesla Powerwall.
    It sounds as though you have applied for the first of these.

    Yes, I have but I've also looked at getting agile.

    Now I've got a smart meter I can work out what and when I use and if its worth switching but with the 15p export I don't think it will be at first glance. I plan of getting all the data over the next couple of weeks and work things out properly.

    What's surprised me is the standing charge is a lot higher on agile, and being a lower electricity user may mean it's better to stick on fixed, again 2 weeks of data will mean I can work this out, on what seems to be a less favourible month for pv. But my electric usage is usually pretty constant over the course of the year.

    I think you're confusing Agile the import tariff with Outgoing Agile the export tariff.
    There is no standing charge on Outgoing Agile, and you don't need to be on Agile to get Outgoing Agile.
    I agree that Agile is not currently looking like a competitive import tariff.

  • Oh really i understood that to benefit from agile export you had to have both agile import and export.

    You can be on Agile Outgoing on any fixed or variable tariff but not on Go or Go Faster. Octopus does not want consumers to buy in at 7.5p/kWh and then export at a much higher unit price. For those on Go and Go Faster, Octopus reduces the export price from 7.5p/kWh to 4.1p/kWh.
  • Increasing to 15p/kw that's pretty industry leading. I guess a majority won't export much over the autumn and winter but that's a great price.
    Will others follow suit I wonder?

    My understanding is that Octopus have built up the infrastructure and economies of scale on handling outgoing accounts to make it work. I don't know anyone who has installed solar since SEG and is not with Octopus.

    The other companies have not been competing with octopus even at the current 7.5p rate, so I can't see that changing now - even though, it should be a lot cheaper than buying energy from the market. I suspect for them it is not worth the hassle.

    I have Octopus Flexible for my import and Outgoing Agile. The only "what if" for Outgoing Agile was when the export price dipped below 7.5p. But seeing it hasn't been much below 20p for a few months, it is pretty much a no brainer. (Imho. And is why I switched as soon as I realised that I didn't have to have Agile import).

    Octopus is clearly aligned to capture as much of the EV/ Solar market as possible. The 0.15p/kW rate sounds great but the Outgoing Agile tariff will likely also increase under the next price cap next month.

    One nuanced benefit few know about. If Octopus cannot capture a half hourly export reading from your smart meter for any reason, their terms state that they will default to the fix SEG tariff for that time slot. This happens automatically via their billing systems and is particularly relevant with SMETS-1 smart meters, that are 2X more likely to experience a missed reading.
