NoobSolar said:Qrisb wouldnt that be dangerous? I assume then it would be trying to send energy that couldn't go... Wouldn't that make the iboost malfunction? When the immersion heater reaches its set temperature, the thermostat will disconnect the heater from the supply. All the switch would do is mimic the effect of the thermostat.Make sure you use a switch suitable for a heater; not a light switch!N. Hampshire, he/him. Why can it be dangerous only the same as if the thermostat is turning off when temperature is reached and the electric stops flowing into the element.0

Anyone have luck signing up to Octopus atm? The website says its unlikely to be cheaper and to call them to discuss.
Also, no one has a crystal ball but SEG vs. battery storage - is there a good way to calculate? Like this site (so many ads - don't click them!) https://great-home.co.uk/solar-export-guarantee-seg-calculator/
I know our electricity usage, but due to being 100% electric with GSHP, the calculation is more interesting since our highest usage is when we have the least amount of sun of course. Also a high base load due to servers and things at home.0 -
@ccbrowning no luck for me either. I'm waiting for SEG. I have emailed octopus to provide a quote, will give it a week and see how it goes.

I am looking at switching from Octopus Agile outgoing and flexible import to Octopus Go and the basic outgoing (4.1p/kWhr?) for the winter months when my pv export is low and my EV charging requirements increase (range drops noticeably when driving in the cold and the dark).
I've still to complete that cost calculations, but wondered if anyone else regularly changes tariff to compensate for seasonal variations.4.3kW PV, 3.6kW inverter. Octopus Agile import, gas Tracker. Zoe. Ripple x 3. Cheshire0 -
