Tiny spend in Lidl yesterday of £1.77.
Definitly finding that if i just need a couple of bits going in when I'm short of time is a positive.- a mad dash in and out leaves no time for accidental extras

Tonight, DH is going to go to MrT’s without me. I’ve written a shopping list and expect it to come to about £15 but he has full rein to buy YS items without consulting me.

Well my estimate was completely out. DH went to MrT’s first. £7.42 spent but no frozen white fish. They had Yeo Valley yoghurts at full price, but Google said that Sainsbugs were only charging £1 per 450g pot, so he went there and bought six. He also found the fish (£2.20 a packet) and some smoked mussels. £12.60 spent in Sainsbugs.
Yesterday, DH filled up with petrol at a different MrT’s, so popped in to see what YS items he could purchase. £2.84 spent on a YS “Takeaway Curry” meal for 2 (£1.88) and a family pack of mainly red peppers (96p). The curry is dinner tonight.
The above brings our total for June to £106/£144.20, leaving £38.20 for the rest of the month.

Well the first 2 weeks hubby and I lived out of the freezer but did spend a bit on salad, bread and milk. Oh and eggs. Big sack of potatoes.Treated ourselves to a Chinese take away Today our people came home from respite so yesterday a Asdi click n collect plus I had to go in the said shop for a few things that I couldn't get online. Amount spent £203.43 plus the odds that hubby and I brought bringing it to £65 ish. 2 weeks to pay day so we should be fine.Mortgage free September 2021. Narrowboat brought October 2021
Emergency fund £7500
Christmas fund £14306 -
I have an annual food/cleaning budget of 3317.85
Total spent so far 2204.31
balance left 1113.54 for rest of year
It doesn't sound too good, but I'm not panicking. I've enough meat and fish to last the year. Some veg/fruit is still in the freezer from last year.
I'm already putting home grown veg from this year back in the freezer. I've been given two huge carrier bags of rhubarb (enough for the year) now frozen.
I have hens so we're never short of eggs and the surplus gets used in some way and frozen - One favourite method is making cake batter and freezing it uncooked. Enough in each tray for about 6 individual muffins/buns/cup cakes. Always goes down well with DH at lunchtime - usually I have enough frozen to take me over the winter when the hens go off lay.
I've changed my supermarket to L-d- from a more expensive one, They have just revamped the layout and it's quite nice to shop there and I choose my time when it's quieter.
I'm left with a budget of 5.62 a day or just short of £40 per week, so with fingers crossed and the wind in the right direction I should be able to manage.6 -
Food spends galore since last update:
£land = £8
Aldi = £40.49
JS = £38.83
Asda = £13.58
JS = £42.25
Veg Box = £16.47
Fish Van Mkt = £22 - decided am not going here anymore. Fish was very expensive for what I brought. Hate to say it, but SM much much cheaper!!! I know he is an independent fish monger on market, but I got very little for £22. For that amount of money I would have done 5 meals from SM
Total spends = £181.62

Hi
On 15 June I spent £13.03 on groceries, this makes may balance £53.40/£120.00. I went to a local surban shopping centre to return a frying pan whose coating had come off and decided to try Ho*me Bargins in this centre and spent £13.03 on groceries. I also found a lovely, reasonable priced, independant tea, coffee and meals shop here so spent the refund on the meal which was very nice.

Hi all. I scored some major YS deals on fruit at M & S on Tuesday! I was so proud of myself that I told the attendant at the cafe I visited afterward! I happened to walk in around 1pm to find a lot of fruit on YS including my beloved strawberries. I got a big 700g tray for only £2.68 and a regular sized container for £1.34. So they were both 50% the usual price. They also had big boxes/punnets of nectarines for 67p by the door so I scooped up one of those. £4.69 spent on a goodly amount of fruit.
This afternoon I stopped by M & S again to get milk, 2 fresh soups, a YS Cumberland pie, and a 3 for £7 mix & match of a large cheese & onion quiche, ham, and half a roast chicken. Those will make easy lunches and dinners for the next couple of days especially with the frozen veg in the freezer. £13.69 spent on that trip.
When I got home and was putting away the groceries, I noticed we need Greek yoghurt again. OH is going through that like water. I'll also try to keep an eye on dates next time I'm in so I can plan my next YS fruit raid.

I have YS duck legs (only £2.80 for big legs) defrosted in the fridge that I need to season and cook likely tomorrow. I'm thinking of seasoning one with Chinese 5 spice powder but don't know what else to marinate it with. Maybe ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic and red pepper flakes. Any ideas? I think I'll shred it to use on potato rostis along with a yoghurt sauce and sautéed haricots verts from the freezer. Or a stir fry? Not sure how to season and marinate the other one. Again, any ideas? Have a good evening all!2 -

I'm now of fan of Blue Dragon Sweet Chili sauce, normally I buy the less sugar one. A teaspoon goes a long way... I brush it on sausages, chicken, salmon and pork ribs before cooking, it really does lift the meat. I've also mixed it with mayo and made an 'interesting' coleslaw. Just sharing It's great for adding to marinades, and stir fries.2 -

It’d be similar to orange sauce and you could still sprinkle in a bit of 5 spice tooHere i am again.... Older but not any wiser!
