  • I've just spoken to Talkmobile re these 0330 numbers. Their help says "Our plans contain allowances for standard UK text messages, picture messages, data and calls to standard UK mobiles (numbers starting with 07) and standard UK landlines (numbers starting 01, 02 and 03)".

HOWEVER she said the 0330 number would not be part of my free calls bundle and would be charged at 40p per minute, she said "
03 numbers are free unless it is premium or a service like that number 0330".

So 60 entries a day would be £24 a day! Think I'll give it a miss!

So I'd advise people to check with their individual phone providers to avoid any surprises.

It sounds like Talkmobile are talking nonsense to me.
There is no such thing as a 03 premium number. They should always be charged at the same rate as 01 and 02 numbers and come out of your free call allowance if your package has one.

That's what I thought so I questioned it and she went to check with a colleague and came back with the same answer. I've seen someone on Facebook say their network charges for 0330 too.

I'd suggest it's worth you doing one entry then checking to see if you get charged for it (wait a bit, it can take an hour or so for calls to get through all the rating processes, certainly on EE which I'm on)
I think they're telling you that you will get charged for it as they're assuming that the competition provider is treating it as a premium number.
But - as SpanishBlue says - 03 numbers get charged the same as 01 and 02 numbers.
So if your mobile tariff allows free 01 and 02 numbers, it should allow free 03 numbers as well.
Try one and see - that's the only way to be sure.....

From the Talkmobile "Ask a Question" page where I've searched on "0330":
Our plans contain allowances for standard UK text messages, picture messages, data and calls to standard UK mobiles (numbers starting with 07) and standard UK landlines (numbers starting 01, 02 and 03). Phone numbers starting 0800 or 0808 are now also free to call from your mobile. Once you've used up one type or all of your monthly allowance you'll be charged extra for anything more you use outside of your plan.

I'm not being charged on EE PAYM. It also says this on their website so it's definitely "free" on EE:

"Many organisations use 03 numbers such as 0300, 0344 or 0345 as an alternative to more expensive 084 and 087 numbers. Calls to 01, 02 or 03 numbers will come out of your inclusive minutes."

Just to add a little clarification: It's definitely "free" on EE PAYM if you have a call allowance which includes 01, 02 and 03 calls.
And all of the current EE PAYM plans have unlimited call allowances, so the calls are free however many you make.

However it won't be free on EE PAYG.
Plus, if anyone is still on one of the old 3G plans, they tended not to have unlimited call allowances so anyone still on these plans might find that they use up their call allowance in a few days and then start getting charged for them, so it's worth checking your current bill amount now and then to be sure :) (text "bal" to 150)
