My friend wants to buy a laptop and I gave her the same specifications that I was advise here a few months ago but instead of processor Intel Core i5, she found something that says Intel® Celeron® Processor N4020 (4MB Cache, up to 2.8 GHz). Can any kind soul help? I have no idea what it is, she likes the price and I said yes to her because it is a Dell and that's the only one I recommend because she can get technical support 24/7.
WARNING: she's as bad as I am, so please explanations for a 5 year old. She would like to start comping like us, so I gave her the same "meal".
THANKS IN ADVANCE !

You might get more answers on the Techie board but I am sure someone will have an answer for you.

I don't have the link and the search does not work for me. Do you mind helping me with the link, please?

It means the processor is slightly different.
The Celeron is cheap and cheerful and will be slightly slower than the Core but for comping will be perfectly adequate.

It's a terrible CPU, avoid at all costs. I'd go as far as saying it's obsolete in today's market.

As an absolute minimum, you need a quad core CPU. But this very much depends on what you need the laptop for. 8 core CPUs will be the norm shortly.

Try not put too much stock into i5 CPUs, this is a product line and means nothing as far as comparing which is better. For example, you can get an i5 700 range which is very very old or you could get an i5 11000 range which is brand new. i3, i5 and i7s ect is just a product line/name, think ford fiesta and ford Mondeo. In this instance the i3 is the fiesta and the i5 is the Mondeo. It's a better model but it could be a 10 year old Mondeo you are purchasing. It's the number after the i5 that's key here. Higher the number the newer the CPU.

If all your friend intends to do is surf the web and maybe simple word processing or spreadsheet use then it might suffice but generally I would avoid any celeron chip.

See some benchmark numbers below (scroll down to the section "CPU Mark Relative to Top 10 Common Laptop CPUs" and you can see its speed compared).
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Celeron+N4020+@+1.10GHz&id=3683
As a mate of mine would say, you don't measure its speed with a watch, you measure it with a calendar.

Is this the Techie board??
What is happening here?

Under no circumstance should she buy it. The Processor is only one part of the equation. Chances are that the rest of the spec is carp too. So no.
Likelihood is that it isn't even a Windows laptop, but a cheap and nasty Chromebook with an SD card for storage.
Possibly priced at around £230. So we have an idea of the budget involved.

So before we go any further...NO!

Last time I saw the N4000 series in operation it was fine for typing a letter or whatever but it was hopeless for web browsing. Ad-block solved that, but that's not the point.

You lot are PURE GOLD ! I almost said to her to buy it...So I'll tell her to buy the specifications I was given here.
Thank you to each and everyone of you, equally.
