I’m another one who leaves the heating on and lets my thermostat decide whether or not to fire up the boiler. The thermostat and timer are set at my comfort levels and for the times I want heating. If it’s warm in January, the heating doesn’t come on, and if it’s freezing in July, it does.

Of course, whether the heatings on or off might depend upon ones age.

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I can never understand this English obsession with seasonal heating 'on-off'. Leave it on and use the 'stat. That's what it's there for. Hot in January-it goes off. Cold in August-it comes on.
Except I want the house hotter in winter than I do in summer, so rather than just simply turning it on and off I would have to adjust the thermostat to achieve the same thing.

Why is that? I'm not sure why you would want to be hotter in the winter?

Personally i prefer a similar temperature all year round and that seems to be the norm from what people tell.

Storage heaters here so I have to consult at least 3 or 4 different weather forecasts and go with the consensus. If it's going to be sunny the next day, they stay off. If it going to be dull or raining, they go on.
