Hi All,
I had a discussion at work today and I was surprised to hear that some people I work with have switched off their heating back in March and it hasn't been on since! We still have ours on, the thermostat is set to 19 during the day. I find that when it drops below 19 it feels cold, this is with a few layers on too. We tend to drop it down to 18 through the night and back to 19 in the morning. Is this just me that still has it on?
For those that don't have it on - does it not get too cold?
Thanks

Different houses, different insulation levels and make-up, different levels of comfort. You might be comfortable at 19 degrees. Somebody else might be cold right up until 23. There is no "right" time to turn the heating off or on, never has been. It has been a cold spring though, with apparent snow in parts of Scotland even though it is now May. Some time in the 1970s I think it was there was snow in June.

I've still got it on. At the moment, I'm not bringing the temperature up quite so high. Just to 17.5 degrees. It just on for a while in the morning and evening.0

I fell like people who actively turn the heating off must not be using thermostats that adjust the temperature automatically based on a schedule because if they did they wouldn't ever need to turn it off because it simply won't come on in the warmer months.
So if they fitted a programmable/smart thermostat they would save a good amount of money if it's currently on everyday on a set schedule.
Over the last 10 day the heating has been on for me for a total of 1.5 hours so I probably could turn it off completely but then I would have been cold on those occasions so don't see the point just to save a few pounds on gas.7 -
Never turn heating off. The thermostat works well, if it’s hot inside and outside heating does not come on, if it’s cold, it does. Wonderful invention.12

I don't ever actually "turn it off", it's always on as in it's determined by the thermostats as to whether it comes on or not. In the summer it will be too warm and will not come on. It's been very cold lately though, so it has been coming on a bit more in the past 2-3 weeks.Retired at age 56 after having "light bulb moment" due to reading MSE and its forums. No! Snow on the hills this morning, and Baltic in the garden! We have a NEST thermostat that takes control, and it will switch the heating off when it’s good and ready! ( we like 18 degrees during the day and 12 at night) .1

No,thats what a smart thermostat is for, wether its January or July, makes little difference living in southwest Scotland.
My view is that if Im cold then heating is on,I've no intention of sitting around cold.
Spending a resonable amount of money on a decent thermostat you can fit and forget was one of the best things I ever did and cant recommend one highly enough, mines been set and running for over two years without issue within my goldilocks temperature range.2 -
- North East of Scotland
- Has been snowing the last few days (& no I'm not in the hills).
My heating is most definitely on !!
Agree with all that has been said about a decent thermostat (I'm using the Hive system). Was it really "everybody" that was Kung Fu fighting ???1
