And which way round would that be, Doug?
MattMattMattUK has answered that I think.  You can't - legally - be in a minority if you identify as White British.

What's next, you having a problem with old people getting discounted fish and chips?
    Crikey.
Old people get cheap chips just because they are old?

Old people get cheap haircuts as well

I think it’s the way society is heading that instead of accepting that certain people get a better deal than others or an advantage somehow all we hear are cries of “discrimination”

I'm not sure why certain replies have been having a go at me, I'm merely asking a genuine question, whether it's discriminatory.  I can easily claim I'm a traveller I guess so I fit the criteria o:):o

That may not work.  If the gym is using the BAME criteria, Travellers are not considered a minority ethnic group.

    Hi all
I previously joined a free 12 week gym membership pre-Covid and now that gyms are open again I thought I would look at re-joining (I think you can only get the free 12 weeks once - I didn't get the free 12 weeks previously as I my induction and then everything closed for Covid).

Anyway, the criteria appears to have changed, this is what it says:

You need to be over 18
    A resident of the area
Both of which I qualify for.

It then refers to BMI criteria:
A body mass index of 30+
    OR
A body mass index of 25 and from a black or minority ethnic group
    OR
A body mass index of 25 with some comorbities

It therefore seems to me (though happy to be correct) that as I probably have a BMI of over 25 but I am white I do not qualify (I do not have any comorbidities and unlikely my bmi over 30).
Is this how you read it?
    If so, is this discriminatory?

I suspect they may be getting funding for this from somewhere related to health - and there is evidence that the BMI thresholds (crude as they are) are medically different for different ethnicities.

    Eg from:
https://www.networks.nhs.uk/news/bmi-risk-thresholds-for-people-from-black-asian-and-minority-groups  'Healthcare professionals should consider a lower body mass index (BMI) when identifying the risk of weight-related conditions among people from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups, according to latest guidance from NICE. '

But according to the OP the gym only says "... and from a Black OR [my emphasis] minority ethnic group" and doesn't qualify it further by mentioning BAME.

(I won't go into whether or not BAME is an exclusively non-white category as there obviously can be white minority ethnic groups.  Whether all "Travellers" qualify as a minority ethnic group, or whether they have to be Irish first, I'll leave for another day).

Quite, which is why I said "if" the gym is using the BAME criteria.  I suspect that they're a bit muddled and intend to use them (because of the increased health risk to people of colour) but haven't worded it exactly that way.

Yes what I said in my initial post re the qualifying criteria was a direct quote from their website.
