Hi all
I took out accidental home cover less than a week ago after not having any cover for a 18 months or so as i was sick of the kids breaking mobiles etc. I have a valuable laptop which has just been dropped on the floor and is no longer working fullly, my concern is ringing up and making a claim so soon after taking out the policy will surely raise some eyebrows. What can i do ?

If you don't want to use your insurance, then you'll need to replace it yourself.
But you got the insurance because of your family's habit of dropping things, so it would be odd not to use it when you drop something, unless there is an exclusion period.1 -
what is an exclusion period0
-
A period after taking out the policy in which you can't claim. It helps deter fraudulent claims.0

so will they assume my claim is fraudulent thats what im worried about but i really need this laptop fixing , ive looked through the policy and nothing is written , but it hasnt even been 7 days since i look it out i feel terrible0

You only have to worry if your claim is fraudulent.
Otherwise, use your policy.1 -
well its totally genuine so ill go ahead and make the claim1

Read the policy documents and see what the minimum time is. The reason for exclusion periods is that if you had dropped the laptop today and took out the policy immediately to make a claim and firms paid out, everyone would just wait until an accident happened then put the policy in place. By having a waiting period of say 2-4 weeks or 1-3 months or whatever, it puts people off making false claims.0

i cant find anything in the documentation stating any waiting times. If what you say is true then whats the point of having the policy if your paying for something you cannot use until you have had it 3 months.
