Amex at Asda

Apologies if this issue has been raised previously - my Amex card was declined in Asda for a contactless payment at the weekend, then immediately accepted for same purchase as a Chip & Pin transaction.
On checking my Amex account today the amount came up twice, as pending - cue a 'phone call to Amex who explained the scenario and that one of these debits would be reversed.
I then visited the local store and was advised that Asda don't accept Amex
Anyway, cut to the chase - I 'phoned Asda customer services and they confirmed that they DO accept Amex cards, however by C&P only at this time, no contactless option yet, something they are working on to resolve.

I think the issue of Asda has been flagged before. To be clear, Asda do accept Amex.
Until recently, I had to use chip and pin to pay at Asda using Amex and contactless didn't work. However, in recent weeks, my local Asda has replaced the card terminals. Although it is still not possible to pay via contactless using the physical Amex card, I can pay contactless using Amex via Google Pay. The good thing about Google Pay is that there is no contactless limit as well, i.e. I can pay more than £45 using Google Pay contactless.0 -

Just like in Tesco and Sainsburys.

I've had this same experience at asda for years, contactless (either card or via Google Pay) won't work - but chip and pin works fine. I'm sure however it did work on some new tills at my store recently.0

Used mine today by contactless ,no problem.1

Same experience as others with Asda who definitely do take AmEx.
Contactless using the card now works since they installed the new card terminals, prior to them being installed it was PIN only.1 -
Obviously the new card readers are not installed in all Asda stores yet.

Asda seems to have an uneasy relationship with Amex. For my on-line shop, I need 2FA every week despite Asda being on my "SafeKey" list.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Credit Cards, Savings & investments, and Budgeting & Bank Accounts boards.
