I do agree with matt on this one, the problem with tracker isnt just a less favourable market, but the formula has been changed, I loaded up a site a few weeks back showing the tracker rates, and was confused for about 5 minutes as it was about 0.5p higher than what Octopus was showing me, but then I seen it was showing a newer tracker tariff, when I switched it to the older one it was correct.

Agile as far as I know is still the original formula (welcome to be corrected), so that has the potential in future to get back to its good spell, but the market is still mostly unfavourable at the moment.

For electric I am moving to lifestyle, as assured 5p through the night every single day, two periods of mid pricing during day and no 4-7pm peak, yeah sorry agile doesnt compete with that in its current state.

For gas I switched to the January fixed version, its currently cheaper than dec 2023 tracker never mind the 2024 variants.  Market seems on a upward trend for dailies.

I tried (successfully?) a few posts back to understand the Tracker and Agile "formulas"

The guesswork at present is whether the "what goes up will also go down" mantra applies. If so one can be relatively relaxed about the current spikes. If not, ..

It is true that the formulas have been "loaded" in recent months

Likely you fixed gas on one of the December versions, dearer Octopus 12M Fixed January 2025 v1 was only launched yesterday ish, thread started by someone else titled Octopus Jan 25 fix was misleading being as was December version available at that time.

It was launched on 3rd January as like many on here, I've been checking rates daily after receiving the Octopus email on the 1st. There was a short window while the December version was still available.

19.1p unit rate average for the month 5th Dec to 4th Jan (exc. VAT) here, so about 20p with VAT, given the three day surge that month thats not too bad. The new formula would just about be ok based on that average, not the best start to the new billing month though.

Late to the party again here :( It's been a busy 2024, and now I've missed out on the lower rate fixed gas again!

Our tracker is due to end in Feb '25.   I had a look around yesterday briefly but couldn't find anything fixed gas only for less than the fixed rate on offer from Octopus which was 6.10 p/kWh / 29.34 SC on the "Octopus 12M Fixed January 2025 V1" tariff.

Looking this morning with a view to calling to ask them to put us on the fixed gas only today, they've already removed the tariff from yesterday and replaced it with "Octopus 14M Fixed January 2025 v1" which is now 6.13 p/kWh / 29.34 SC.

On hold now to fix our gas.

Electricity is back down tomorrow after it's little spike today, I'll keep an eye on it.  I had a look at Tomato yesterday but couldn't really understand their tariffs and the graphs, is the unit rate in the graphs locked in for its respective time periods for the duration of the tariff? As when I started playing about with the filters on the right i.e. gas boiler etc, the unit rates changed (went up) as did the SC!

There's a saving session between 5-6pm tonight which made me chuckle, I suppose the lighter evenings will help, albeit overcast and forecast to snow down here in the South!

BargainBear i'd still take the fix even now, the difference between the 1 you missed out on will be very little increase over the year just to take the sting out of the increase and also safeguarding youself

Agreed northernstar007, on hold to them now to do exactly that as the 0.03 of a pence is nothing in the grand scheme of things!

Plus with the new tariff being a 14 month one, it'll take us to March '26, so if the Tracker doesn't become more appealing towards October time, the rate will hopefully help us through the higher usage period now, and next year.

So I couldn't get through on the phone before I had a meeting, so popped them an email during the meeting asking if they'd honor the "Octopus 12M Fixed January 2025 V1" tariff of 6.10 p/kWh, requesting the change to come in to effect today.

I've just received a reply back and confirmation of our tariff change, confirming they've switched us to October 12M Fixed December 2024 with a rate of 5.85 p/kWh / 29.34 p/day SC as of today! Albeit an error on their part, I'll happily take that!
