If I am told that to join Tracker is now mandatory, but I'm on non-smart Tracker for gas, then it sounds very important what the date of joining is/was.
I get the impression that the gains from playing the gas market with either meter are limited and depend very much on one's crystal ball technology, and willingness to back the predictions.Telegraph Sam

Since middle of February 2023 new customers signing up to tracker required to have a smart meter.
A few months later Octopus changed end of fixed term tracker renewal process, do nothing default option meant going onto flexible tariff, customers wanting to stay on tracker required to have smart meter (mentioned within end of fixed term renewal email) and contact Octopus to remain on tracker tariff.
Your fixed term gas tracker ended August/September 2023 ?????0 -
If you had to compulsory join today, albeit it at higher prices, it would have no difference on the answer you were looking for, regardless of what type of meter you have (Smart or non-smart). The date you
Unless your daily usage for both gas and electricity (in a month) was exactly the same, then some months you would be better off with a smart meter and some months you would not. Over, say a 12-month period, it would probably even itself out.
There are flaws (drawbacks or winner/losers) in all scenarios. What is important is that prices are around 40% lower than SVT, which is a nice saving. I am not going to argue over a couple of quid, when my winter savings are around £45 a month.

The change from So Energy to Tracker gas was August/September 2022 not 2023. I don't follow where 2023 came fromTelegraph Sam

I must have been lucky.
When I joined Tracker gas it was not for a specified fixed term. I get the impression that some folk are on fixed term contracts, others not.Telegraph Sam
