I'm not bothered about getting actual bills, but the readings will show on my account. I send a meter reading on the last and first day of the month, so I get a bill which has 30 days and 1 day of data for a 31 day month.

  • I get into the habit of submitting a manual reading on the same day each month so I have that as a "fix" regardless of whether the smart reading makes an appearance or not, and for what amount. I've just done so 10 minutes ago and the smart reading might follow in a day or two.

If you think that's what will happen, then what you suggest makes sense. My December bill spanned 5 readings and only the start and end (smart) reads were used. It wasn't split up in the way you describe. But I didn't have any missing data.

main point: what's peoples experience of speed of payout after requesting a "refund of balance"? i made a request for the 1st time today.

if anyone is interested. requested a refund on the 6th. heard nothing, balance has NOT shifted but full refund amount back in my bank account today. happy. i guess the balance on account will change overnight or maybe at the next billing stage.

Another good day tomorrow with prices still hovering around the 18p/kWh mark. It looks like we're in for bargain basement pricing for 4 or 5 days starting on Saturday with wind generation forecast to take a big step up at the same time that demand takes a big step down. So all in all a great start to 2024.

All we need now is another Saving Session and we'll all be rich beyond our wildest dreams - well those of us with smart meters will be :-)

Mental note - must remember to throw a few crumbs to the misguided folk who still don't believe that smart meters can save you money. I blame Albert Enstein - he might understand energy from a theoretical standpoint but he appears to know stuff all about using your smart meter to save money. He's become so obsessed with his IHD that he's actually confused people into believing that the IHD is the smart meter, silly man. He doesn't even mention the benefits of time of use and other smart tariffs. Still, I suppose he's getting old and TV ads are one way to make a living....

Even though I'm on the tracker tariff I send in readings on the 26th of the month. If I forget then Octopus bills up to the end of the 25th of the month.
Someone please tell me what money is

Well the reading last night is showing as having generated a bill, although it's not showing up yet.  I'm certainly not going to argue with £40.93 of gas from 1-14th January!

I've put in another reading this morning.

Some of us have SM2 which are not consistently being read by our utility supplier.  So please don't be patronisiing.  I totally understand the difference between IHD aand my SM2.  I also have been in constant communication with my provider about the non-comms issue.

I think Mmmmmikey’s comment was more about the people who refuse to have a smart meter “because my (neighbour/friend/sister etc) had one fitted and their bills went up” and the Einstein advert is also very misleading. You only have to read a few Facebook comments to see that far too many people do not understand the difference between smart meters and IHDs.

You’re in the unfortunate situation where you have the kit but it doesn’t work as it should.

Yep all looks good making January a very cheap month.

With my finger in the air guesstimation around 17.3p kwh for the Eastern Region come the end of the month.

Gas must have been fantastic as well.
