Thanks for the replies, but in the FAQs it seems to me that Octopus are saying that Tracker without an end date is a variable tarriff.....and also that all variable tariffs are protected by the price cap, so that does seem to be the way that they are interpreting it, hence the change back to fixed end dates.0

I would certainly appreciate a definitive verdict on which of the contradictory interpretations to believe! Makes you wonder if OP know the answers themselves!Telegraph Sam

I've come to the conclusion there's nothing I can do about the situation, they either increase the rates or they don't. I'll deal with the choices I have to make, if and when I have to make them. There's little I can see out there that I would want to jump ship for right now, so I'm going to chill out and keep my fingers crossed.

A bit of history might be required for those new to this. All Tracker and Agile tariff's used to have an end date. Then the Govt. brought in the Energy price guarantee (the £2500 one) and Octopus had to stop putting end dates on so as to be compliant for new customers to be covered by it. Now the EPG is effectively dead (it does still exist but we already know the rates until it ends will result in zero discount) they need to go back to the original system of having end dates.
It's a bit of a mess but it's of the Governments making.

East of England 3.2-3.4p more when they make the change as an example.2 -
Thanks Darren,
.....but I was on Tracker at the time of the EPG......and was covered by it despite having an end date. Was I covered because Octopus stopped giving an end date to new customers?0 -
fuelcrusher said:What do you guys do when you see missing data. I'm currently trying to get data manually pulled for two separate times. The first is one half hour slot on the 8th which I'm not hopeful for as neither Hugo nor Bright is seeing this data either. Next is the entire day of the 11th, which both Hugo and Bright do see, but Octopus don't, I think this manual pull should be successful.
Now my understanding is that with just one missing slot they will average my bill. We load shift between days in our household so this will cost me extra. But I don't feel confident in stopping load shifting just to find I do get billed correctly and then we've cost ourselves extra.
My current understanding is that if you send a manual reading you'll trigger a bill. If I did that now it'd be an averaged one of around 10 days. Then I'd assume that you'd revert back to specific timed billing until your next normal bill date?
I'm sure this scenario is common so what do others do?The system does now attempt to pull missing data after a few days. You could also request that they attempt to retrieve manually. There isn't much point doing this while data is missing from other sources too, as even one missing half hour will cause the billing on a consumption basis to fail.If you submit a reading, then you will be billed to that reading, with any missing data causing it to be done on estimated daily usage. If there are any subsequent missing readings in the next billing period, you would be in the same boat. If the data is unreliable, what you can do is submit regular readings to lock low or high usage to the appropriate day.0 -
Sorry for being slow on the uptake but is it or is it not possible to say / confirm/ guess / forecast if those on "endless" Tracker tariffs will be affected by price caps now and in the future? It's almost a suck-it-and-see scenario and I'm not sure how much confidence I would put in what I was told if I put the question to OP over the phone.Telegraph Sam
