Just out of interest what's the highest anyone's seen for electricity on Tracker?

It definitely went over the 80p for Eastern region at one point.  Those were hairy times (VERY grateful for Octopus' cap, even though ours is a high one at 55p).

My Octupus Super Green Octopus 24M tarrif ends next month on 20th May 23.

I've received an email from Octopus to say the best option for me is to roll onto the Flexible Octopus tariff, as no fixed tarrifs are currently being offered. The flexible tariff will work out at an estimated £214 per month.  (I currenlty pay £105 per month and have a credit of £396.26 as of today per the email, although the Octopus app differs from the email and suggests I am £501.34 in credit).

My Annual usage estimates in the email are.
    • E - 3155 kWh
    • G - 11,872 kWh
    Daily charges E = 60.02p/day Unit rate 32.91p/kWh and G = 27.47p/day Unit rate 10.27 p/kWh.

Should I be shopping around to get a better deal (fixed or tracker) with another provider, or is it pointless due to the current energy climate and I therefore just need to pay the extra £109 per month ?

You could ask to go on the tracker waiting list if you have smart meters. It’s probably best to wait and see what happens before moving to a different supplier because prices are expected to fall and once suppliers can set their own prices again there may be some better deals on offer.

    Thanks for your reply.

What do you mean by asking to go on the waiting list, is there something I need to do here?  The email from Octopus says:

The Government has introduced an Energy Price Guarantee that caps variable energy prices at £2,500 for a typical home.

This represents a discount of around £1,000 for a typical home compared to the Ofgem price cap for October to December, and is in addition to the £400 Energy Bill Support Scheme that will reduce all monthly payments between October and March, and the further support already announced for low income or vulnerable households.

In light of these reductions, we're not currently offering fixed price tariffs — they're simply not a good choice right now. Instead, the best option for you is to roll onto our Flexible Octopus tariff at the end of your fixed term. This will happen automatically: you don't need to do anything.

Also I have a smart metre installed from my time with British Gas but It's not been in use since my time with Octopus.  At least I havent even plugged it in.  Should I have?

Someone should not ask to go on Octopus Tracker waiting list without reading how the tariff works and being aware of possible downsides to the tariff particularly in view of expectation that potential EPG reduction is unlikely to apply from 1 July.

The little device that you plug in is NOT a smart meter: it is an In House Device/Display which is connected to the communications hub.

    Thanks for posting this.

I know there's probably not a right or wrong answer here, as nobody really knows, but is the best move for me to sit on the Octopus  flexible until July to see what the EPG Reduction looks like then make a decision then?

I can't imagine that going onto the Tracker waiting list would stop you changing your mind at any stage.

I thought the little device/display meant that I had a smart metre because it communicates with the device.  I'm sure when it was installed, when I was British Gas, I no longer had to sent meter readings.  However this stopped when I moved to Octopus 2 years ago for a better deal and I'd assumed it was because it was incompatible with Octopus.
