Ruby-Tuesday said:Thank you, for some reason I thought that it was a free service, which made me suspicious, I guess that I will just have to slowly work my way through notifying everyone. The Tellusonce service looks very useful for central and local government departments, thank you. I was also wondering if there is a way to stop all the mail order catalogues too?
Some of these mailings do take months to stop, so don't be surprised if you get more catalogues for the next 3 months or so.Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!0 -
Hi, the company has asked for a right of reply. MSE doesn't endorse anything a company says on the Forum:
@Ruby-Tuesday Life Ledger is a legitimate service, it verifies your identity to help protect the companies being notified against fraud.@RAS and @Parcival Tell Us Once works for public sector organisations (council, benefits, passport and driving licence) but not private sector companies (banks, insurers, pension providers, utilities, social media etc) which is where Life Ledger can help.
@Mojisola - with Life Ledger you only have to fill in the information once and then you can add and send notifications - otherwise you have to repeat your details over the phone, or fill in the same forms over and over again
Many thanksTremayne

I used “Tell us Once” and it is free and was great. When I registered the death the registrar told me about this service and it was very straightforward. I have not received a single piece of post for the deceased since using it and all the loose ends are now tied up.0

I used LIFE LEDGER and found it really helpful in dealing with the estate of a late relative. I had also used "Tell Us Once" to inform government agencies - which is great but essentially limited. I found the "Death Notification Service" run by Equiniti, which is often publicised alongside "Tell Us Once", to be very limited and poorly designed. Through Life Ledger, I was able to notify 23 organisations, ranging from utility companies to insurance companies to investment houses, and it saved me a lot of hassle. The team running the service are really helpful and responsive. No hesitation in recommending Life Ledger if you find yourself in the unfortunate position of having to deal with the affairs of a departed.0

I am funeral director. I know this is an old thread, however I would strongly recommend Life Ledger to anyone who has suffered a bereavement. Life Ledger is a similar service to the Tell Us Once service which is operated by the government. Tell Us Once is for Government services, passport, driving licence, benefits. Life Ledger deals with the private sector. It is completely free of charge to the bereaved relatives, the companies that use Life Ledger pay them because it streamlines the administration surrounding a death for them and it is something that companies struggle with.
Yes you do have to do some work like entering account numbers and uploading evidence that you are an appropriate person to adminster the person's affairs, however this is better than spending hours on the phone to different companies repeating yourself as you are transferred from person to person.
The cynical comments above are from people who have not done any research into how they work.-1 -

Was highly intrigued about the veracity of the Life Ledger service, and as a result of the company's responses to the knee jerk negativety and scepticism expressed, decided to delve into their back story.
The above link outlines the genesis and original equity funding of this enterprise. Impressed that it benefited from pre- brexit access to the European Union Development fund ( no mean feat given the selection criteria)
It's mission of providing a valuable time saving service to the public and professionals alike, certainly ticks a lot of boxes from my point of view.
The fact that they are paid by the companies to whom they report the deaths is novel and suggests with sufficient scaling up ( via use by the the professional sector of solicitors, accountants and funeral directors), this could become one of the more innovative and deserving enterprises developed to assist with the tedious and sometimes torturous post death admin process.
As others have observed the government's 'tell us once' service is very restricted in its scope and reach.
I am particular impressed that they also purport to be able to assist with a deceased's digital footprint such as streaming services and emails, an aspect that will become increasingly important as we all gravitate to leading our day to day lives in the digital realm.
All in all, I am inclined to wish them luck and success in growing their business in this sensitive area.1 -
I wondered why this zombie had been, er, dug up.Tellusonce deals efficiently with all government and council departmentsthere's a 'deceased preference service' to stop junk mail and catalogues.many UK financial institutions are included in the death notification service, which covers 'tell us once' for finances.no company can assist with digital footprint; yahoo, google etc are very limited about who they deal with. All UK companies have bereavement teams and need to hear from the executor or 'next of kin'.BTW there's no need now for more than a couple of paper death certificates, most places accept a photo or scan.in short, a solution looking for a problem.0
