Oh I’ve been AWOL! The decorating is moving on and work is ridiculous. All my time not working has been spent working 🙄. The man we found to finish off the inside of the ceiling after the roof replacement finished off today, so now it’s ready for decorating…I’m feeling country conservatory/orangery vibes…which may be a tad ambitious for a porch 🤭
MrWW was on nights last night and whilst unsupervised I stayed up until midnight papering the 2 walls of my office. The rest is painted a very, very dark green…MrWW kept walking in and saying ‘it’s very dark’ before being sent on his way, but has agreed it looks good now my Victorian office vision is coming together. Unfortunately the dark design of the paper meant that in the cold light of day I could see a white join line along the tiny overlaps where the very cronky walls stopped a smooth finish so tonight I was carefully colouring them in with a fine liner and now they are invisible…phew! All I need now is a date for the carpet (luckily it’s a small enough room that a decent carpet can be had for a small price) and then to put together the finishing touches (new chair for sleeping cats, very realistic faux monstera (as cats eat real anything’s) and put up the antique style mirrors, etc. I was shocked to find that the 2 carpet places don’t stock colours..it’s all creams or greys. Anything darker (or brighter) is as rare as hens teeth and has to be ordered in. I felt sad about that. I know there are trends, but not everyone wants to look exactly the same. I can’t risk a nice wood in case someone wees on it and lifts it (the pets, not me or MrWW!)
I do foresee a few months of very minimal savings while I sort out all the house things that have gone to rack and ruin while I was paying off and saving up. I’m feeling a pang of guilt at spending, but it’s long overdue.
@PennysIntoPounds I do have a savings goal. My aim is to be able to replace my car (when the time comes) without a car loan. It will be my first ‘here’s the cash’ bought outright car in my entire life. I love having no car loan and don’t ever want to do that again…however my goal posts have shifted as at first it was just that singular aim, but now I don’t want to part with the savings, so would like to have double what I need, so I could replace the car without going back to scary no safety net WW.I hope you have all been ticking along ok?Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien

Nice to see you, well done on all the various work. I am jealous you have a porch, go for a quasi conservatory/orangery if you fancy it- better than the Grant Wood American Gothic vibe that I associate with porches (and would probably inadvertently imitate were I to have one!)
The Victorian study sounds gorgeous (I know you said office but I'm fairly sure it warrants study with this level of excellent decor). The good thing about monsteras is they don't look hugely different if bites have been taken 😂 May we please have some pics to be jealous of the room when it's done if you're comfortable with that
Do you know the amount you want to save to have your spare car money? I don't drive so completely clueless3 -
P.S. don't feel guilty if you can afford the outgoings, there's a huge difference between daft fripperies and making your home somewhere you're contented to be in and live and work in3

Sounds like things are going really well with the decorating. I had a flooring called Quick-Steps in my living room and hall. It looks like wood but is waterproof.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)3

Ah thank you…ooh American gothic sounds excellent. I am aiming for a house less boring, so to be honest it could be anything by the time I’ve finished. It’s been 8 or more years since I decorated and it all looks shabby and bland. All they talked about in the shop was vinyl or cream carpets SA, but Quick-Steps sounds like it would be great for our hall if wee won’t seep under it. The trouble with cats is they can pick a crafty corner and you might not spot it for an entire night 😖
The car fund and spare money needs to be high, probably 3 times what I have now. To buy my car again as it was when I bought it at 4 years old would be double now what it cost me back then…and it was a lot then. I’d rather keep mine until I can change it for something comparable, but a lot younger, rather than compromise as it brings me a lot of joy.Anyhow, I’m all set up for another working day (sigh), so had better get on with it. I hope you all have a marvellous day filled with all good things 🍪Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien

Hope you find a nice carpet soon. I hate the grey trend, some places it seems impossible to buy anything that isn't grey!"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee2
