I definitely browse Amaz@n in the evenings as 'entertainment' in front of the TV when I'm bored. Since Lockdown 1 I've made a rule now that stuff has to be in my basket for at least 24 hours - if I still want it in the cold light of day then I'll seriously consider it but not allowed to click buy that night. Embarrassingly sometimes parcels arrived and I couldn't remember what was in them, having ordered them on a whim weeks before! 🤦

I browse too, it’s my favourite place. There is nearly everything you could dream of on there. I have a habit of putting stuff in my basket and then saving for later. I have reems of stuff saved. Every so often I have a cull and often can’t remember why I wanted it. I spend a heck of a lot of time looking at chocolate and snacks 😬 I also order a lot of chocolate and snacks, but that was the old me!

    Homewares are good too!
I managed a no spend day yesterday. Only another 2 weeks until pay day 😖
I have today booked off work, but have some no spend plans to keep me busy. I will be at my sewing machine for most of the day with Films on tv as I need something in the background.
It looks like another sunny day out there.
wishing you all a wonderful Friday ☀️

Hi, I just found your diary so thought I would join in and cheer you on. Having your own spending money is a really good idea and does help to concentrate the mind when buying things. I'm also a book lover so I know how easy it is to spend on them. Now I have a kindle I do try to buy the cheaper 99p books and I request my favourite authors for my birthday or Christmas if I want them in book form
    Good luck 😊

Hi @Onebrokelady, I follow your diary so feel like we are already friends! Thank you for joining me..the more people to keep me accountable the better.
I do like the idea of fixed spending money, I just need to survive to the end of the month to put that all in place.
I did spend some time yesterday tweaking my (empty) Monzo pots in readiness though 🤣
kindles are wonderful, I have no idea why I resisted one for so long. I have had some really good reads from the free ones...I know they are there to suck you in to following an established author, but it lets you sort out who’s good enough to splash out on (from the spending money of course). I usually ask for amazon evouchers for birthday and Christmas...then it’s  guilt free chocolate and books all round!

Happy Saturday everyone. I almost managed a no spend day yesterday , but then realised we were nearly out of vitamins. I get the gummy ones as the tablets stick in my throat, so it was a £10 spend. That will last another month between us. I may knock the present fund down from £50 to £40 to cover that. I struggle with the idea that saving myself can make me be mean to others. What does everyone else do about family birthdays? Have you reduced spending in that area? Do you explain or just get on with it?
I read recently about someone on another forum saying how they enjoy ‘getting rid’ of their wage to such a degree that they even enjoy paying bills and that struck a chord with me. I do enjoy paying things off, buying for others, spending in any shape or form really and I need to change that.
Today will be a no spend day, I insist!

  • Just popping in to say hi since you were nice enough to visit me! Books, food and craft items are also my downfall, I’m in the process of a “stocktake” so I can see exactly what I’ve spent money on and not used!

@Pink_Giraffe thank you for stopping by.
A stocktake is a wonderful idea....I could start a hunkydory shop with ease 😳.
I’m into quilt making now (just over a year, so still at the learning stage), but I’m planning to keep stocks to a minimum and use what I have (says every crafter everywhere 🤣).

I put £30 a month into the birthday fund but I also had a cull of who I buy for. I have two kids and my friend has two and we decided to stop swapping £10 notes 🤣  I buy for my Goddaughter but usually a £20 max limit.

I have two nieces and a nephew. When they hit 18 presents stop so just 1 niece to buy for now. Also don't buy for my SiL as she's skint and this year I repurposed an Amazon gift voucher I got at Christmas for my brother's 50th in February.

It's my boys 16th this year so will splash out a bit more on him.

I've never thought of just browsing on Amazon. 😁 it's usually stuff I need, like my coffee subscription.

Good news on the pots. I've just tweaked mine as some had built up like car maintenance so I can reduce that by a bit. It's always a work in progress.
