Carolbee - are you giving up work when you receive your pension? I was determined to, but when it came to it I couldn't do it!! I'd worked all my life and felt really strange having the option to not work anymore so I carried on for a few months and then saw how much tax I was paying, I didn't realise the state pension was counted as taxable income, one gentleman at the allotment told me he pays more tax now than when he was working, I'm assuming he has really good pensions.

My friend is still running his business at 75. His daughter keeps trying to get him to retire. I've told her he will be dead within 2 years at most if he does. She insisted on him shutting down for the first month of lockdown. What a nightmare. I've known him for 57 years & have never seen him so down. He really needs to work. Although he does only work 5 days a week most weeks instead of a minimum of 6.

@badmemory everyone needs a purpose. For your friend it’s obvious work keeps him going. I think my purpose could happily be pottering about, watching homes under the hammer and crafting, but when the time comes, who knows 😬Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien
