Need to update my details on ebay and provide bank details

Maybe a DD is needed in case you have to refund someone?0

I've just spent 45 minutes on eBay chat trying to get straight answers about this new system - totally unsuccessfully, got switched from the initial adviser to a member of a "specialist" team who then wanted to switch me to another "specialist" team. I'd had enough so told him to pass the details to that team and for them to email me, including an email address that I could respond to!I will not give my bank account details to anyone - eBay and Paypal have my credit card details, that system has worked fine all the years I've been an eBay member - I'm a frequent buyer but only a very very occasional seller, have a feedback rating currently 1179 but have never had a detailed seller rating as I have never sold 10+ items in 12 months!I told the chat mob that if as threatened they disable my ability to create listings if I do not update my bank details by May 31 then I will have no choice but to find another selling - and thus perhaps buying - platform. Wonder what the response from their "specialist Team" will be!2

If you don't agree with a companies t&cs you will not be able to use that outlet, good luck in finding an alternative

I don't see the problem in giving ebay your bank details. What do you think they will do with it?2

What do you think will happen to your bank details?
If in the rare chance that a return goes through they will take the money off you using the direct debit, but the same was true with PayPal, if a return was done and refund needed they could take the money. Otherwise the bank details are used to pay out to you.2 -
you can't fight this one - either give them your details or close your seller account down.2

I will be trying to find another platform. I don't think ebay will care. I heard an awful story that an ebay exec announced these changes in a talk. He supposedly said that sellers would have no choice but to go with the new system. I guess these big tech platforms know the power they have when they become huge sites.
Incidentally does anyone know what happens with an ongoing listing if you lose power to edit it because you have not added bank details?? Would a sale result in a normal Paypal payment and would the listing renew automatically if it didn't sell.0 -
I've had a response from their "specialist team". It appears that I will still be able to purchase using my Paypal account but I think by 31st May if I have not given them my bank account details I will not be able to list anything for sale. Some years ago a good friend, who had linked his bank account to eBay, had his account hacked and £3000 disappeared, took 6 months to get it sorted and get his stolen money back. For our own reasons there is always a healthy 4 figure balance on our only bank account, so no way will eBay or Paypal ever have details and/or access to it, so I'll have to find another selling platform/method. Annoying after 19 years on eBay.
