Got email from ebay saying I need to update my details by end of May as payments to seller are changing. In the past I have always used paypal, so I will not be able to receive payment through this method. Not sure about giving bank details I was asked whether I wanted to link my bank account and when I clicked yes I was taken to my buildings society website and asked to log in details. I did not continue further as was not sure whether it is genuine. Is this the right procedure? Can somebody help pl?

My OH got the same and thought it was a bit odd.
You can do it manually but there is also a problem doing it that way if your account name in ebay is not exactly the same on your bank account.0 -
I did mine manually but had to upload a PDF copy of a recent bank statement at the same time. It all went through immediately so no real issues.0

Yes this is correct. That's what I did last year and everything is absolutely okay.

I only had to type in my sort code and account number, no bank log-in or statement needed.

I got as far through as entering in my bank details, then questioned why I’d need to be the only person on the account to set up debits, and upon further inspection they were attempting to set up a direct debit to my account for eBay “fees”.0

The direct debit is used to pay you your profits from selling.es5595 said:I got as far through as entering in my bank details, then questioned why I’d need to be the only person on the account to set up debits, and upon further inspection they were attempting to set up a direct debit to my account for eBay “fees”.0 -
But it hasn't been used to take any fees from me. They have paid out the profits from my sales to my bank though. The fees are taken before payout.Alter_ego said:
Direct debits are to take money not pay you. The clue is in the namejon81uk saidThe direct debit is used to pay you your profits from selling.1 -
Anybody (including eBay) can pay money IN to your account if they know your account number and sort code. However, to take money (e.g. eBay's fees) FROM your account, they need to have appropriate authorisation to do so, which is what a Direct Debit provides.jon81uk said:But it hasn't been used to take any fees from me. Are you sure a Direct Debit is needed? I am still trying to get my head round the new system and have found this :GabbaGabbaHey said:

Fees and expenses will be deducted before you get paid and the remainder of your eBay earnings will go directly to your bank account, not your PayPal account.
Your eBay selling fees will be automatically deducted from your earnings at the time of sale. No more PayPal fees.'
