Will be doing some pillow research today! Thank you for all the helpful replies! I think I'll try a middle of the range pillow and start reading lots of reviews now I have some starting points.

As for writing stuff down, I'm not sure what I actually think of that keeps me awake, and when I do sleep it seems to be light sleep or really odd dreams!

I've tried relaxation music but I tend to "listen" to it too much and Mr Pinkshoes does not appreciate it! I seem to remember that my grandad used to fall asleep listening to the radio 4 shipping forecast or something!

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

That's the beauty of the pillow speaker! Only the person whose head is on the pillow has to hear it.

What I used to listen to wasn't music: it was a spoken 'thing' with vague sound effects. As I said, I rarely heard the end of either track - one was to sleep and the other just to relax.

Honestly I dare not say how old my Dunlopillo latex pillow is and it has been and still is fantastic.  Since new, it has always had a pillow case on it, then the pillow protector, then the pillow case I actually lie on.  I bought a new one within the last couple of years but I don't feel as though it is as comfortable as  the old one.  I did read that Dunlop changed the makeup of them but I don't know how true this is, but my experience tells me the new one is definitely different to my old one.  Having said all that, they are far from cheap and I think I paid circa £60.  Its called Dunlop Serenity.  I don't sleep well either, but it's because I can't switch they grey matter off!!!!

I'm with you about the Dunlopillow Serenity, I'm embarrassed as to how old mine is. They did change the make up of them I believe, think the mattress shop told me that and at £60 plus I'm not sure I want to try another one and find its not as good.
Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama ;)

I have a Woolroom deluxe washable pillow. You can unzip it to take out filling to adjust to how you like it. Or buy extra filling if you like a really well stuffed pillow.
I found through trial and error that I sleep better with an almost flat pillow. You need to plump it up well regularly as it can feel a pit lumpy after a few nights if you don't. The cover is organic cotton quilted with wool wadding. Not cheap though.

    Thanks for all the comments.

I looked through lots of reviews, and liked the look of the Dunlopillow, but as I've had a reaction to Latex before I managed to find a "latex-like" one and bought the "NOFFA Soft Orthopedic Pillow" from Amazon for £40.

I've had it a couple of nights now, and so far so good. It is soft without feeling suffocating, then when I fidget and turn over constantly, it springs straight back up and does not require any re-shaping which helps with trying to stay in a sleepy state rather than wake up due to pillow wrestling.

The £100 pillows seem to have really mixed reviews so I felt £40 was a good compromise.

Back in the day when it was originally purchased, I am sure it was called just a Dunlop latex pillow, no specialised names in those days.  If I think back long enough and go deeper into the grey matter,  I'm not sure whether this pillow came to me courtesy of my late nan when she died.  I mean I couldn't make a story up like that!!!  Anyhow, I already purchased a Dunlop Serenity and it's is definitely not the same. In fact it is the 'dress' pillow for the bed.  I wish I could find the post someone made about a latex pillow made in Italy and they said it was like the original Dunlop latex.  I remember it being free postage and if I could find it, I would buy one.  Approx £30 rings a bell and it was on Ebay.

just in case anyone does want to buy a dunlopillo, it's now called a relyon pillow - I just bought one for my mum to replace the original one she's had for about a million years, and she said it's the best nights sleep she's had in ages!

I have always liked my Dunlopillow latex foam pillow.  However I bought a Serenity one a couple of years ago and yes it is different and I couldnt get along with it. So its here in it’s bag unused still.  I’ve read several people saying how much they like the Travel Lodge pillows so I’m tempted to try those - from Amazon.

I've been using the NOFFA Soft Orthopedic Pillow that I bought for over a year now, and I'm really pleased with it. It's SO comfortable, retains it's shape so no more waking up and having an argument with my pillow, and the outer protector washes really well too, and is thick enough to prevent dribble staining the pillow itself. I also use an additional pillow protector and pillow case with it. I've since bought one for Mr Pinkshoes too.

This is the one I have:

We have the pillows that came with the Emma mattress. They do take a while to sort, soften and get just right.
The pillow comes in 3 wedges inside a zip up bag. We both have 2 in the bag and one out in a separate pillow case. This means we can add / remove pillows to suit our sleep.
We both prefer to sleep on our sides but end up on our backs with multiple cats using us as a mattress (never bring a kitten into bed with you, just don't!) The pillows work well, I think the issues early on may be your body adjusting to the new arrangement, I have gone from 2 to now just 1 pillow.
May you find your sister soon Helli.
    Sleep well.
