    You are all missing the point " that new combination of metals also makes batteries more volatile".

    To get the power storage capacity up they will be changing the composition of the batteries, by reducing cobalt and replacing it with Nickel the payoff is more volatile batteries. 
    Would these types of batteries literally burst into flames, or would they take a while for the heat-build up to get to the point they ignite?
    Where does this fear of cars bursting into flames come from?
    I watched Marcus Tandy's Renault Alpine (disguised TR7) explode in El Dorado too, but it didn't affect me that badly.
