Electric car charging

Yes is the simple answer. But, you really want the cable from your house to the space. Who owns this land, how far is it? Is it soft dig or paved? then who owns the parking space. If the power has to come from another source then it’s more complicated. Say a street light circuit.0

Yeah I don't want the wire.. That's the problem.. Would want it underground. We own the space. But not the spaces between the house and the space.. So yeah.. Prob wouldn't be able to dig up it all up.0

should've bought a petrol/diesel then?0

If the parking space is next to the road, you could get the electricity company to run a new supply in from the street to a supply pillar at the back of the parking space. But you would have to pay all the costs involved. And you would have a second electricity meter, with its own standing charges. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -

But if they want people to move to electric cars, they're going to need to think about this kinda thing. Not everyone has a drive.3 -

We have a driveway, solar panels, even home battery to store electricity from the solar panels. For us our EV running costs are crazy low, in summer its nearly 'free' to refuel from solar PV, and charging at home costs 9p/kWh on E7 rates.
Getting an charger installed in the street is impossible ifs on a public street/pavement. And if you rely on public charging you will be paying 20-30p/kWh, and wasting your time having to find a space.
If you own the land for the parking you can get one installed but as mention you have to get permissions to run the power supply to that land. I suspect once you have done all the needed work/got permissions it would be a five figure sum interms of total cost.
I honestly don't know what the answer is, but houses with driveways/garages may command an even higher value versus houses without as EV adoption increases, and end up with a very imbalanced two class solution for EV charging.5 -
If you've got charging at work or your local supermarket or train station, then you may not need to charge at home anyway and it may still be cost effective even if it's not as convenient.
Where are your nearest chargers?
