Hilarious how many take these things seriously.

You are a student. The discounts are for students. As (almost) everyone else has said.
    So what's the problem?

You are a student so you are entitled to a student discount.  The fact that you might be earning is irrelevent, students get jobs as well.

Between 2018 and 2020 I was doing a masters part time alongside my full time job. My mum tried to say to me the same, that I shouldn’t be claiming a student discount because I had a full time wage. I saw it as just using something I was entitled to with my student card.
  • If you fulfill the criteria for applying then you are entitled to the discounts.

Whilst not morally wrong to me it depends entirely on what you do the rest of the time. I volunteer at a major charity and find it very annoying when people take out a much reduced student membership and obviously are mature and not in need of the discount!!
That is the line I would put. I work at a university and student discounts are considered a benefit.
I'm perfectly happy to claim my student amazon prime discount, but I would not claim a charity student membership otoh.

There is a difference between a commercial venture and a non-profit (although both offer student discounts in the hope they will continue as customers after being students).

I would say that you have all of the qualifications to mark you down as a university student: your age is irrelevant. How your son can label you as something other than a "proper student" defies logic as you are studying through a university and are entitled to whatever benefits are offered. I would also guess that you are probably more committed to study than those less than half your age and therefore have a greater right to claim student discounts than most others.

I get an NUS card and therefore student discount for working at a university, and I use it all the time. Most members of staff do, it's one of the few perks of the job  :D If you're entitled to it use it!

I am appalled that they are viewing this the way they are, frankly I was shocked. You are a student therefore you can receive student discounts, age has no bearing on it at all.
Oh come on. Really? The kid is finding his independence probably for the first time. He's getting to !!!!!! with his peers about the world as it is today, and how the previous generation let them down, and there's not only someone from the previous generation, but it's his parent. What's that going to do to his street cred? And your not shocked, that was you once.

Edit. In response to OP, no it's not morally wrong. The youth can always benefit from being reminded, they weren't ever the first to do or think anything, even if they hate it at the time.
