Should I pay for this plastering

Comments
-
It took 2 plasters 2 days to skim 2 bedroom ceilings and 3 bedroom walls and over board a 20m2 living room ceiling then plaster it and plaster 2 of the walls. It just seems like it is rushed with no care and I don't think they applied the right amount of plaster on. I have offered to pay for the cost of materials and 2 full days labour for the 1 plasterer and a day and half for the other as he was only there half a day. But he is insistent that I pay full price minus 50 quid for inconvenience and minus price of the skimming for the ceiling. But tbh I don't want to pay him what I offered.0

That's shocking work we had a plasterer in to do kitchen and one wall in dining room 6 years ago and he spent ages getting an absolutely perfect finish all over before tiling including around pipes/sockets that wouldn't be on show/hidden behind units, We have since recommended him numerous times and he has now also done work for a couple of North East actors and regularly posts pictures of his work on his Facebook page1

That is shocking work - there is no way I would pay for that.
Where is Nellie when you need him?Past caring about first world problems.0 -
I would just like to know where I stand in regards to paying him. Lots of people are saying I should not pay him but I don't want to be like that and would want to be as fair as I can as the walls do feel fine to the touch (I don't really know how there supposed to be) its just the edging is terrible. So is it fair for me to just pay a day rate or am I being too nice about it.0

In that case give him the option to fix the issues, to your satisfaction, and let him fill in any anomalies until you are happy. You paid for a professional job and, from the photos you supplied that leaves a lot to be desired.
Don't worry too much about bits that will be covered (e.g. skirting board)Past caring about first world problems.1 -
I offered him to put right or make better and he said that's the best he can do I won't come out much better and that I need to get a decorater in to fill and sand the imperfections. I said I wanted it plastering so that I didn't have to sand and fill, don't get me wrong I expected something hear and there but not to this extent.1

The bit around the silver pipe may be forgivable if the rest was decent, not sure about the bit between the copper pipes as it looks tight to plaster in-between but assuming that's the radiator pipe I guess it won't be seen.
As above parts that will be covered by skirting, architrave or under the plug socket covers doesn't matter much if it looks tidy once everything in finished.
But generally it looks extremely poor, the scrim shouldn't be visible and as others have said little care taken, particularly in the edges and corners, the finish should be like glass.
It's decent of you to want to offer some kind of payment, might be worth posting the pics on this board:

to get an idea of what needs to be done, if it can be tidied up to a decent finish then you should ask them to do that and pay the full amount on completion of a satisfactory finish.
If it's needs to be redone I wouldn't be paying them much at all.
The Consumer Rights Act states they must use due care, reperform at their cost without significant inconvenience to you or if they are unable to do so you have the right to a price reduction which should be reasonable but may be up to the full price.www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2015/15/section/49/enacted
Service to be performed with reasonable care and skill
(1)Every contract to supply a service is to be treated as including a term that the trader must perform the service with reasonable care and skill.
www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2015/15/section/54/enacted
(3)If the service does not conform to the contract, the consumer’s rights (and the provisions about them and when they are available) are—
(a)the right to require repeat performance (see section 55);
(b)the right to a price reduction (see section 56).
www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2015/15/section/55/enacted
Right to repeat performance
(1)The right to require repeat performance is a right to require the trader to perform the service again, to the extent necessary to complete its performance in conformity with the contract.
(2)If the consumer requires such repeat performance, the trader—
(a)must provide it within a reasonable time and without significant inconvenience to the consumer; and
(b)must bear any necessary costs incurred in doing so (including in particular the cost of any labour or materials).
(3)The consumer cannot require repeat performance if completing performance of the service in conformity with the contract is impossible.
www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2015/15/section/56/enacted
Right to price reduction
(1)The right to a price reduction is the right to require the trader to reduce the price to the consumer by an appropriate amount (including the right to receive a refund for anything already paid above the reduced amount).
(2)The amount of the reduction may, where appropriate, be the full amount of the price.
(3)A consumer who has that right and the right to require repeat performance is only entitled to a price reduction in one of these situations—
(a)because of section 55(3) the consumer cannot require repeat performance; or
(b)the consumer has required repeat performance, but the trader is in breach of the requirement of section 55(2)(a) to do it within a reasonable time and without significant inconvenience to the consumer.
