OK so after a lot of debating I have ended up paying 350 to them for the work they did in the bedrooms which I was reluctant to pay. At first he was having none of it. He said that's what my house insurance is for! That right my house insurance not his liability insurance which I then mentioned about and I mentioned I need to look into the legal side of things to were I stand with what's happen. He then said there's no need to escolate things. But whilst I have been sat here not being able to make calls and sort anything out about it I just thought offer him 350 and hope he agrees, as tbh I don't really fancy going down the legal road of it my self not knowing how much hastle it will be and if any repercussions would come back from it and just say it's a bad experience and to learn from it. I have had a plaster look at it it and said its one of the worst he has ever seen. When I inspected the screws that were in the ceiling half of them on one side of the room was not in joists and I don't think there were enough screws in there plus they were screwed in on an angle so was never going to grip the boards properly it was almost screwed in sideways lol.
That was a huge mistake paying him anything.  The man was obviously either a total amateur or a cowboy to have botched something that any reputable plasterer should have been capable of doing.  Who is responsible for cleaning up and getting it redone?

I would now be really nervous of anything else this fool has touched.
I don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!

Find as many review websites that you can and put on honest, factual reviews of everything that has happened and make sure that if possible, you include some of the photographs.
By paying him £350, you have just helped to ensure that he will continue ripping off other people.

Thing is, you will be out of pocket now, you have paid £350 on top of another contractor who will most likely, need to strip back all the walls and start again costing far more than your original quotes.

and painting it just highlights the dodgy bits!
Absolutely -- a DIY trick when dealing with walls that have been patched/plastered is to apply a single coat of paint all over, let it dry, and then look for the defects that show up, rather than trying to sand the whole wall, or anticipate which defects can and can't be seen. The paint makes the whole wall a uniform colour so surface problems stand out (unlike walls with two shades of plaster, filler, pencil marks, etc, where flaws can hide, or appear larger than they really are!) The idea that a bad plastering job will "disappear when painted" is not just false, but the opposite of reality, unless you plan to slap paint on with a trowel, or use a heavily textured paint, or have poor eyesight :(
  • Thanks guys.. I know I should not have gave him anything but the stress it ws causing me was unreal. I just needed to get rid and forgotten about. Ideal world would be not a single penny paid and taken to court and what ever else to follow. I struggled to imagine me being able to juggle that with work and renovation thinking it's just gonna delay me even more. If I wasn't trying to get into the house and actually was living in it already then perhaps I would have done. I paid by bank transfer so I got proof of that. Not that that might help me in anyway now because of not persuing it any further. I have learnt a big lesson and hopefully nothing like this will affect me again like this has.

That's fair enough, but PLEASE make sure you leave a FACTUAL review (including photos) demonstrating the "quality" of the work they did, including the one of the plasterboard falling down.

As long as you only make your review factual rather than any name calling, then they cannot demand that you remove it. Although obviously you might consider removing it if they pay back the money you paid...

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • Where do I leave the factual review?

Just google the company name along with the word "review" and see which forums or review websites come up! Post on the top ones available!!

Or at the very least on your local Facebook group?
