Front door opening out (Security issue)- rock door

YES, it is a very small area and with the door opening outwards will make our life much easierJeepers_Creepers said:There are lots of reasons why inward-opening is much preferable, and the least of these (on a modern door) is security. Are you saying your hallway is actually too small for a door to swing in to?0 -
There is another security issue here, if you answer the door to someone undesirable, they can easy keep the door open/ gain entry if the door opens outwards. Its easier to shut a door in an emergency than to pull one close. You are really opening yourself up opening the door like that, and for what a little extra space.
Also with a door opening inwards you can use a chain to open the door a jar for extra security.6 -
What about 2 half width doors? Inwards or outwards, one in, one out?

Whichever door you get, you’ll want to be able to see who is standing there before opening it. So you’re going to need a door viewer or a pane of glass in the door.
A really strong security chain would be helpful too.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

The hallway in our last house was 800X800 with an inwards opening front door. I must admit it never occurred to me to change it, we simply never put anything in the way. Is the problem the direction it opens and is it possible to put the hinges on the other side?0

Exactly this. We bought a house once with a door which opened outwards, in our case there was a wide step as well which people would stand on to knock and every time someone came we had to signal through the glass that they needed to move back so I could open the door..2021BJ said:
What about people knocking on the door? Most will be expecting the door to open inwards so will be standing reasonably close. Might be a bit awkward as they have to shuffle back out of the way as you carefully open the door to make sure you're not slamming it in their face?katy123 said:the door will open onto our front drive not road, apologies5 -
Currently living somewhere with an outward-opening door, although I think it's reasonably obvious we have had the occasional delivery leaving parcels against the door.4

They’re not hinges. They hold the door in the frame if the hinges are disabled.katy123 said:No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?1
