Front door opening out (Security issue)- rock door

I had a quote today for a front door (rock door) and said we wanted to open the door out onto the road because our landing it very small. The guy said that if we open it out, the hinges would be exposed and the hinges can be cut fromm the outside? I then googled this and came across people tapping out the hinges rather than cutting hinges and removing the door itself. Is this really possible with a rock door? I'm not so bother about cutting hinges as that would take a long time/lots of noise but if the hinge pins can be tapped out, then I'm worried.

I don’t know about rock doors, as I guess they are a particular make, but doors with exposed hinges are potentially a problem. Multipoint locking is a solution. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

we wanted to open the door out onto the roadIs that really a good idea from a safety perspective? Open the door into the face of somebody walking past or a vehicle?3

Is "Rock" just one particular brand of door, or is there something specific about a "rock door"?katy123 said:I had a quote today for a front door (rock door)and said we wanted to open the door out onto the road because our landing it very small.
As has been said - what about anybody walking past when you fling the door open in a hurry...?The guy said that if we open it out, the hinges would be exposed and the hinges can be cut fromm the outside? What sort of a warzone do you live in, for this to be a realistic concern?
There will always be an easy way into a property. Why is removing the hinge pins from the door easier than lobbing a half-brick through a window?
Why will they target your property rather than another, anyway?0 -
My father, was PoW in WW2. i.e. Anti-fa, although right-wing all his life. Escaped several times but sadly always recaptured.
He said always go for the hinges rather than the locks. With the right tools (and hinges without protective caps) you can tap out hinge central shaft with small hammer and thin pin (called a drift?)2 -
the door will open onto our front drive not road, apologies

Do you mean a lock that locks say the top and bottom of the door, rather that just lock on the handle side of the door? I think rock door has 5 doors but all on the side strip of the door where the handle is.GDB2222 said:I don’t know about rock doors, as I guess they are a particular make, but doors with exposed hinges are potentially a problem. There are lots of reasons why inward-opening is much preferable, and the least of these (on a modern door) is security. Are you saying your hallway is actually too small for a door to swing in to?0

What about people knocking on the door? Most will be expecting the door to open inwards so will be standing reasonably close. Might be a bit awkward as they have to shuffle back out of the way as you carefully open the door to make sure you're not slamming it in their face?katy123 said:the door will open onto our front drive not road, apologies5
