I’ll certainly look into that Alex, the co-op offer nothing for gamblers and I’ve just seen the fees they’ve charged me for foreign gambling transactions, rubbing salt in the wounds. I know I was stupid to indulge but an on-screen warning along the lines of “your bank might charge you a fee for making this payment” might have been useful, doubt it but .....
You can’t keep blaming other people for decisions that you are making. This is only going to be fixed through you taking the steps that others on here have explained to you.

Thanks for that Mr North I don’t think I’ve blamed anyone and have admitted my stupidity, steps others have kindly suggested have been helpful, another step, I believe, would be to get my spending controlled ... many banks offer gamblers advice and help (much as GA and the NHS do) and have systems in place to stop payments to online betting sites but my bank doesn’t.

Yes Sncjw gamstop is excellent there are plenty of sites not registered with them ... and the Halifax freeze is excellent as it takes several days for the block to be removed plenty of time for my “urge” to have dissipated ... good of you to take the time.

I believe with the Starling Bank gambling block you have to contact customer services to turn it back off and wait 48 hours. So better than just flicking it off yourself and gambling again instantly.

Yes Lee ... it seems like a good idea, I believe several banks offer that system.

I registered with Gamstop in November and it has been totally effective for me. It has totally removed the temptation and I have barely  thought about gambling at all, after losing well into five figures on betting exchanges over the last 15 years or so. Such a great weight off my mind so I definitely recommend it. Just taking the action and seeing it in black and white is a great wake-up call.

I think truly determined gamblers can find ways round it, but for me it was enough of a reality check - it snapped me out of the routine of going to the same sites. I also spoke to a close friend who I have known since my school days (30+ years) and who had no idea I had a problem. Just getting it out in the open was a great help. Good luck.

Have you ever had scammers texting you horse racing tips or football score tips and ask for money in return? I seem to be getting alot of them recently because I replied to one once offering free tips.
