Yes the OP said they want to get an interest free *credit card*. That's why i said my Barclays debit card has a gambling control, so maybe the Barclays credit card will have.2021BJ said:

Or maybe it won't since it's an entirely different product.pinkjune said:

OP says in the first post that they do not offer a gambling block.born_again said:Talk to the CC co. Explain that this is a gambling co and as such should not be going through.
Will not get you your money back, but may see them take some action going forward.
If you're referring to the "ban" on using credit cards for gambling, that ban is on gambling operators taking credit cards, not on credit card companies allowing gambling transactions.
Yes, So why are the gambling co abusing the law then? Guess it is because they are not UK based. Which is why speaking to the CC might help. While it should not need a complaint raising. It might need one just to get to a team that can deal with putting a block in place.
From experience it can be done, but was very much a card no specific addition to the security system to block gambling catsic codes. So even a change of card meant it had to be placed again, but bank would not do it without user telling them. As card production is all automated.

Yes born-again ... off shore and I’ve tried speaking to the coop about it but their messaging system is really not good and when I called them the lady I spoke to was really pleasant but had no idea about the subject and new nothing. I will keep digging away at them.0

don't worry, this will soon pass ... when the funds run out. And if it's no joke, then this is a disease ... it is being treated by a desert island with pretty Russian girlsrogertb said:

Why would the credit card company block it? It is very clear from the OP's subsequent screenshot that currency conversion fees were charged, so these were foreign transactions.born_again said:2021BJ said:

The gambling company is doing nothing wrong here, they're not beholden to the UK Gambling Commission and the CC company has done nothing wrong, nor has any reason to block the gambling companies transactions as they're not beholden to them either.0 -
Rather than keep 'digging away at them' for a solution that they won't provide and wouldn't actually solve anything in terms of your underlying compulsive gambling... have you actually contacted GA, or attended a meeting?rogertb said:Yes born-again ... off shore and I’ve tried speaking to the coop about it but their messaging system is really not good and when I called them the lady I spoke to was really pleasant but had no idea about the subject and new nothing. If not, please please do so. Today. Nothing else will help you escape this situation! Good luck.0 -
In effect the Op can be classed as a vulnerable customer. As such banks have a duty of care.2021BJ said:

Also note the quote by the gambling commission expecting banks to be "socially responsible"
Yes they are a non Uk co. As are the vast majority of gambling co registered outside the UK.Life in the slow lane0 -
The Gambling Commission has absolutely no say over what the banks do. What they expect is irrelevant. They don't regulate banks.born_again said:

At least you're acknowledging that they are a non-UK company, although you fall short of admitting that as such, the Gambling Commission has no control over them.
This woolly stuff about having a "duty of care" is also irrelevant to the situation. If anything ending up happening of that, most likely they'll find that "duty of care" ends up with their facilities being revoked (which probably wouldn't be a bad thing) rather than them wasting time blocking each of the probably tens of thousands of gambling companies one by one as the OP works their way through them.0 -
I thought the credit card gambling block was supposed to be based on the MCC which I think (off the top of my head) is 7995 for gambling merchants. If that's the case then all UK credit card issuers should not allow transactions to that MCC which should work on a global level.
Obviously, this wouldn't work if the merchant has been set up under a different MCC or if the OP is using a non-UK issued card (or if their current card and the screenshot they provided related to a debit card).0
