Ideally in a matt or near-matt finish. Obviously needs to be durable enough to cope with regular wipe-downs, but ideally also easy to touch up - ie repairs not stand out.
It would be brush-painted for its preferred finish, and this should also help with touching up - directional brush marks blend in better, I think.
Dark colour - anthracite or other near-black. 'Railings' by F*****&B*** seems popular, tho' I wonder if they're the best paints to use?
Anyone done this?
Thanks.

F&B don't have the best reputation for quality (although I have to say that their little sample tins are fabulous for decorating dolls houses!)
Johnstone's trade colour match other maker's colours, including F&B. Just ask the assistant which type of paint will work best on kitchen cabinets.1 -

Johnstone's trade colour match other maker's colours, including F&B. Just ask the assistant which type of paint will work best on kitchen cabinets. If you can tell the difference between F&B and a more chemical reproduction of their colours, texture and finish, then go for the colour match, by all means. There is a difference.I also love it because it genuinely doesn't smell. We're in the middle of doing our bedroom (we've done the entire house in it) and there's no issue with sleeping in there at all. Most of their paints are Vegan. There's nothing wrong with the quality of it. More expensive paints have more pigment and less fillers, so they take less coats. They're also less likely to dry with brush marks - better for touching up.We've used F&B Modern Eggshell on three pieces of furniture, using Zinsser Bullseye as a primer. I'm looking our vanity unit now and you can still see the woodgrain, despite it having been painted before. It's gone on beautifully.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

We purchased our kitchen cabinets from Handmade Kitchens of Christchurch. They come unfinished and I painted them initially (2018) in Little Greene 'Knightsbridge' Intelligent Eggshell and a couple of months ago repainted the base cabinets in F&B 'Oval Room Blue' Eggshell. Both went on well and are easily wiped down.
By comparison I painted the (few - we only have three plus a decorative cooker hood emulsioned to match the wall colour) wall cabinets in Johnstone's 'Seashell' Eggshell. The colour is perfect but the coverage was awful/needed loads of coats and the overall finish isn't a patch on F&B/Little Greene.
We have painted several pieces of furniture with both F&B and LG over the years and the only time we had any issues was with F&B 'Rangwali' which I used on a chest of drawers....it took forever to dry 🙄Mortgage-free for fourteen years!

Thanks everyone.Yes, I've heard good stuff about Little Greene, so it's nice to have this mentioned. When we first moved in, I did feature walls in F&B matt emulsion, and was pleased enough with it - until I tried to touch up a scuff. Lawdie - sore thumb.I do get what you're saying, Doozer - different paint formulations have different visual qualities. But for what I'm intending to use it for, I think 'chemical' durability will trump aesthetic subtleties any day :-)Cheers.1

@Jeepers_Creepers keep us updated as I'm planning to do my kitchen next, so far I've got the zinsser paint as I had great success with it in my lounge.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0

Willdo, but it ain't imminent. Need to square-off the room first :-)Is that Zinsser primer? What surface did you use it on?1

I've got my hall and other bits to finish before I start too.
I've used zinsser on gloss paint and varnish in the lounge. Got an old 15 glass panel door which was impossible to sand. Plus other cupboards, door frames, skirting etc. Some cupboards I did sand, primer paint but it took months due to working and my health, so using zinsser shaved a lot of time off.
Think it was BIN I used last time, got a different type this time. Only has to last just over 4 years when I will have enough to get the old lot ripped out!
Had enough of looking at brown units, navy blue mosaic tiles on the floor and walls, plus grey worktops and can't get money together quick enough to do the kitchen how I want it.
When I do this temp makeover I've got to clean and key the tiles, base zinsser, then topcoat with as yet undecided colour, have to double check but I may have to put some kind of finisher on the tiles.
Same with the units but with turquoise on top.
Floor I'm filling with grout and getting lino to go on top.
Walls I will just redo white.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.1 -
There's a whole army of people who are using Frenchic paint to paint everything from kitchens to upvc to sofas. Looks terrible after one or two coats and needs five or more to look good. But it does look good.
