Opodo refunds

In February 2020 I booked return flights from Heathrow to Thailand with Thai Airways through Opodo for May 2020 using my debit card. The flights were cancelled due to the pandemic and I claimed a refund for which I am still waiting. Opodo emailed me in December saying they were waiting for the refund from the airline and there was no point contacting them further as they would keep me informed. I have heard nothing since and really need my money back. Is there anything or anyone I can try to speed this up?

you could check with the airline to confirm that Opodo have requested the refund and if and when they have paid it to them. (so you know whether what Opodo is telling you is true) Too late now for a chargeback to card

Doing this would identify if there was a discrepancy between the stories told by Opodo and the airline but wouldn't actually indicate which (if either) was telling the truth!

There are a couple of existing threads regarding delayed refunds from Thai.

The airline has financial issues and has been trying to restructure and stave off bankruptcy. They had for a long time not been paying refunds. Quite possible that Opodo are struggling to get the money back from the airline or even any information.

You might want to do some google research on the latest situation as I believe Thai were due to present a restructuring plan to the Thai courts in mid February.

Best thing to do is to just reclaim from your credit card.

I booked with Opodo too last year. As soon as flight was cancelled, i didnt even bother going through Opodo. I reclaimed from Amex, and got the money back within a day.

Do not wait on Opodo or any airlines. Although since it is now over a year, i'm not sure you can still reclaim from card provider.

And yes, too late, as already pointed out too:

My flight with the Gulf Airline was cancelled as a result of Covid-19, the Gulf Airline confirmed to me that it had refunded me on Nov 2020, but they sent the refund to my travel agent Opodo which I had booked the flight through on line in Sep 2019.
Every time I ring Opodo to urge them to send the refund to my bank account, however I receive a recorded message from them stating that my refund has been successfully processed and the refund will be in my bank account in 3-7 days.
EIGHT month has passed and the refund was NOT sent by Opodo to my bank account. The 4 return tickets were paid for by Credit Visa.
How can I get my refund from the travel agent Opodo please?
    Thank you

I think at this stage all you can do is persist with your repeated requests to Opodo.  Even pre pandemic that had a poor record for post booking customer service - and it seems to have gotten a whole lot worse.  Be prepared that any refund may be minus an administration fee for processing this refund from the airline.

For future travel plans it is best to look at either booking directly with the airline, or with a reputable U.K. based travel agent or travel organiser (Opodo's back office functions are based in Spain) .
