Good evening, I recently started a chargeback process for £1192.11  with Ryanair, due to my flight still going at Christmas and being unable to fly due to restrictions in Spain. I had a further flight booked in May , which I requested to move to October last Sunday , they did this at a further cost of £300, no problem. Today I have found that I can not access the flight on the app, after speaking to customer service they say that I have an outstanding balance due to the chargeback of £1192.11.  On investigating the new charge for the flights and the move ii comes to  exactly £1192.11, they are saying that if I want to fly in October I have to pay a further £1192.11, Have I just been done over by Ryanair??? is this legal? What are the chances that the new flight and the charge back are the same amount?

  • From what you say the flights at Christmas were not cancelled by Ryanair?  If that is the case then you weren’t actually entitled to a refund from them.  This would have been an insurance claim if you were insured for FCDO advice.   Ryanair can and will challenge a chargeback claim if not valid.  Sorry if I’ve mis understood.

The issue is the flights were booked before Covid and insured by our yearly insurance who have refused to payout. I was willing to go on the flight, had my PCR test completed and then Spain refused entry, I live by the airport and Ryanair refused me boarding. It was the only flight going for a whole 3 days all others were cancelled.
  • Oh gosh.  Sympathy in abundance.  What reason did your insurance give you for refusing to pay out?   As your flight left I assume Ryanair stance is they did their bit i.e providing the plane?   Not saying it is right.  Just how it is.   Dig deeper into your insurance policy.

They used the act of God, I have challenged again, but not holding out much hope.

You have been incorrectly refunded and therefore owe Ryanair the £1192.11 that you have been incorrectly refunded.

Ryanair's handling agent correctly denied you boarding as you did not meet the requirements for entry into Spain. It is your responsibility to meet entry requirements and you failed to do so. Ryanair have offered you the service that you paid for, so I'm confused why you feel you are entitled to a refund for those particular flights.

Ryanair don't set immigration law and there may have been Spanish nationals/residents who required the service, therefore it was not cancelled.

Ryanair are entitled to withhold further service from you until you have cleared your existing debt to them and it appears they are choosing to do this.

That does not answer the question that they requested 300 last Sunday to move my flight so they could get the exact amount back, they were not exactly honest were they? Morally corrupt. I understand exactly where you are coming from regarding the flight going, we were the unlucky ones, other flights were cancelled but it was against the law to travel, again not my fault, what you are saying is someone has to lose,  so it's me not Ryanair.

The £300 was the cost of moving the second set of flights, you still owe them for the Christmas flights.

No I am not in debt , charge back same amount of money as flights in October, customer service have said unless we pay the same amount again we will be unable to fly in October.  So after I paid the 300 on last Sunday Ryanair have all their money.

I think  you mis understand at the moment Ryanair have all the money due to them , as they have cancelled our October flight ( but we have paid £1192.11)  and used the money for the cancelled chargeback. So we have no flight for October
