you should have corrected the tenant's error back in December

But we do not know if that was the case.  You have assumed it was so without any evidence. Something far too common on MSE fora.

Because sending 4 letters to someone who is named as an account holder (and hasn't paid a bill) isn't harassment.

Surely that is a matter for a judge,  are you a judge?  I have decided to issue a letter before claim for £150   Total cost to me, one second class stamp.

More MSE assumptions here -  that you are very protective of your wife and  that you are looking after your wife's

When did she receive that first bill/correspondence from Bulb and why was the "error" not corrected by yourself at the time.?

Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

    What an interesting thread.
However what I don't get is why the OP is so keen on getting peoples opinions on how much to sue for. Despite telling everyone he is very experienced, has sued several people in the last and won all cases, has a solicitor who has already advised him regarding the merits and validity of his case and should therefore be able to advise on the likely outcome and what to request.
Surely he has all the answers already at his disposal.

A valid question nik.  Thirty plus years with the FCO taught me that you can never have too much information.

My wife has now received a letter, unsigned and using her Christian name,  saying that they received her details from "a third party contractor" whom they did not name.

They  now want proof that she is not liable for this property.  I have replied by sending them a letter before action demanding £150 or is court.  The arrogance of this company astounds me.

From your very first  post - your wife has a financial involvement and liability   ...........

Bulb have been instructed to address all  correspondence to me.  Instead they have set debt collectors on to a vulnerable person on the say so of an anonymous "contractor".

Your problem is that all occupiers have a joint and several liability for utility bills; unscrupulous debt collectors know that women are a softer target generally. If she is on the electoral register ........
