How long has this call centre job got to last to pay for this?

I see dell have a deal £999  in stock ship today
    https://deals.dell.com/en-uk/productdetail/7nv5
according to that spec its 2 thunderbolt 4 ports.
I'm today completing my 2nd Call Centre type job 10 years each,
New job will last as long as it lasts.
Only need another 9-10 years into 50's though gutted as a nice we Pension was building during recent years.
I think my chosen dell with vat went over 1K as I preferred 512ssd with gen11 i5.
Quite surprised I got paypal credit considering I have been re organising Credit Cards recently.
    thanks
That was a 512 with gen 11 inc vat and delivery £999 in my basket
    Dell XPS 13 9310     (Evalue Code cn93209sc)

some have USB 3.1(C) and some only have Thunderbolt.

Strange one that, there seems to be 2 different models of the current XPS 13, one like you say only has Thunderbolt connections and has a 13.4" screen and the other has Thunderbolt and USB. I wonder if the one you highlighted is an older model.

Any Thunderbolt port will also support USB C 3.0 / 3.1 so don't let that put you off as you can use the Thunderbolt ports as USB C 3.0 / 3.1

Think of Thunderbolt as a supercharged USB C 3.0/3.1 port capable of higher bandwidth and daisy chaining but backward compatible with USB C 3.0/3.1.

Actually the one that @getmore4less pointed to, with the slightly bigger screen, is the newer 9300 version with a 16:10 screen, so arguably the OP has spent more money on an older version of the Dell XPS 13.

no idea if newer or older
One seems to have fingerprint power as well as the USB

There is also a £150 trade in if you can find a cheap <6yo working laptop.

Can USB 3.0 hubs, like the one I linked to earlier, be used with Thunderbolt 4 ports or do you need a Thunderbolt specific adapter?

I think they are similar but you trade features
    the screen difference
    13.3" FHD (1920 x 1080) InfinityEdge Non-Touch display

    13.4" FHD+ (1920 x 1200) InfinityEdge Non-Touch Anti-Glare 500-Nit Display

The more I look at this the less attractive the XPS 13 looks as a home office work horse.

As far as I understand, yes they are fully backward compatible and that Hub will work. Thunderbolt 4 is pretty similar to USB 4.0  and combines the two in the same port. USB 4.0 is backward compatible with all other USB versions. They all use the same USB-C type connector as well.

In the real world I can confirm my Thunderbolt 3 socket functions as USB 3.0/3.1 with full compatibility.

Sorry I referred to only TB3/ USB3 in my post rather than the TB4 - hadn't noticed the OP's laptop was TB4 but with a quick Google I'm certain the same backward compatibility applies.
