Maybe  a little confusion with title.
I have a new w.f.h. Job mid March, time is limited.
I'm guessing my i3 laptop Non HD screen is not going to work fast enough whilst I access new Employers systems etc.
I like idea of Dell XPS 13" -any noticeable difference to i5's or i7's -in 1k-1.2 or 1.3k cost,
Alternative is a Gaming laptop -similar budget -maybe nvidea 26 or 2700 gpu.
SSD essential, gone slightly mad with trundling hard drive from soon to be past Employers
I can avoid a separate Monitor if possible -not a lot of work space,.
prob 8 go ran souls suffice.
    Quiet machine if possible,
    1080P resolution -not expecting 4K.
What do MSER's recommend or user Review.

    Thanks every response.
I'll decide next day or two, once Fri' evening arrives.
Require decent cpu-not high end as such.
    256 or512 SSD.
8 GB Ram should be plenty.
Decent built in webcam maybe from 720p for zoom/Teams meetings.
    Not going for desktop option.
Not a fan of Refurb's though that's my preference for new lasting a few years.
I'm being silly looking at Gaming Laptops, I'll drop that idea.

The mid priced model is new. But I would be confident that a DELL Certified refurb will be as new.

I find it hard to believe that call centre terminal is going to need to any heavy lifting on processor or  graphics to need a £1k machine.

If anything screen real estate is probably what's needed not a tiny laptop screen,

Entirely depends what work you do. I would recommend a different laptop for a standard office job than I would a 3D modeler.
Thanks it will be a new call centre type job, very different to current role, though this'd has been answering calls again.
I wont see new systems until mid March during training.
Do Dells last a number of years.
Then I don't see any reason why your current PC wouldn't suffice. You could upgrade with an SSD if you want. What OS is it?
    Win10 was pre installed.
    Limited 128gb on board SSD.
Since running office 365- word outlook excel power point.
A nice bright decent resolution could be vital.
Think my think pad 330 series isn't a simple SSD upgrade, looks quite fidley at best.
Desktop isn't going to be practicable limited desk space
    thanks
No such animal. It's an IdeaPad. SSD and RAM upgrade is simple.

Cannot imagine why you would want to spend that much on a laptop, for such an undemanding task.

As alluded to earlier, I would be looking at a large 300-nit screen. If for work, you should also consider an on-site warranty. Though of course if you upgrade your current laptop as per the video, you'll have a suitable backup, even if the screen is not great.

Thanks each response, whilst I cannot disagree with valid points mentioned, Id'e prefer a new shiny hi res screen.
current i3 Non Glossy Non 1080P Non ssd takes far too long to get up to speed, that's before I load up whichever Remote Terminal+Browser Based Applications.
Considering a Decision over weekend, Dell or Asus seem to be my early thoughts.

Dell XPS were notorious for having a low-mounted webcam that looked up your nose; don't know if that is still the case.

If your prospective PC is sold by Currys, it might be worth your while popping in to try it in person.

Valid point, think more recent have re entered Camera top Centre of Screen.

Edited Visit to Curry's could be sensible, are stores open again.
    Thanks

People don't use 'visit Currys' and 'sensible' in the same sentence on this forum :)

That's what my thinking was too, hence why I suggested the exiting laptop would probably be fine. It is a money saving forum after all.
