Hi all, we have a new guide on the recently announced Green Savings Bond, and what we know so far. As ever, we'd love to hear your thoughts and feedback.
Thanks for your help.

It will only be worth considering once we know the interest rate.0

Obviously there's a limit to what can be shared when the announcement is largely devoid of facts, but that 'guide' really doesn't add anything of substance to the speculation in other recent threads on here:

From what little we know the Green Bonds sound no different to ordinary NS&I products. The government could just as easily take money from the standard savings products and use it for green projects. Until I see something different I'm assuming it's all just PR fluff.0

Some desk jockey has decided that customers won't fall over themselves to invest with NS&I due to rates no better than elsewhere and awful customer service.
The lightbulb moment has materialised and they have decided to tug at the emotional heartstrings to boost investment.
They have used 'green bond' they could have used 'disadvantaged children bond' or 'Cancer research bond' to have the same impact.
As an earlier poster mentioned, why not just use the money already available? This is just an attention grabbing title to intice younger savers by playing on their conscience imho.2 -
Need some flesh on the bone before meaningful discussion can ensue.0

IMO not a chance these are going to be a market leading product so we, the tax payer, lose even more money.
As has been stated previously the Government are trying to get us to spend more not save.
I hope I'm wrong1 -
I have been receiving emails over the last few months regarding green fixed rate bonds to `raise capital for a sustainable future`. Each email indicates that MSE has teamed up with one of the large energy companies to offer these deals. I have looked on the MSE site and cannot find any reference to these. Has anyone else been receiving these emails and can MSE confirm whether they have any involvement in these investments? The energy companies mentioned so far have been SSE & Eon.
I acknowledge these might not be genuine investments as they offer better rates than NSI

Duplicate post. OP has already started a thread on this. No reason to post it twice

The increase in the NS&I Green Savings Bond interest rate is welcome, but, for a 3 year bond, with inflation continuing to increase, it's still not particularly impressive. And the fact that interest isn't paid out annually (or even quarterly or monthly) so that you can benefit from it before the end of the term is just stingy and mean.So I still won't be tempted by this greenwashy effort, the government will have to invest in these projects from my taxes (which it should be doing anyway, if it is genuinely sincere about transitioning to a green economy), and I'll continue to invest in ESG funds (where the potential reward (and of course also the risk) is higher, appropriate to my level of risk).0
