Some of my son's stuff is very collectable and local selling pages wouldn't reflect that. Probably the same for the Goss china too. I have my great aunt's tea set @Blackcats and that's going nowhere either. It's not worth anything much but I feel lucky to have it.
My son and I moved from a 5 storey house (it was a wreck when my husband and I bought it cheap and 3/4 finished when I sold it) to a 3 bed terraced house so we're OK with the principle of getting rid of possessions. The lady at the tip used to wave me through with the words "Oh you know where you're going". I gave my husband's gadgets and tools to friends and we also gave a lot of things away for charity fundraising and to charity shops. There's still a lot of things in this house though. We filled it when we moved in and that was 7 years ago. The cabinet that the Goss china used to sit in was beautiful but there was no way it would fit into this house. I gave it to a friend with a huge house who I know loves it just as much as I did and who will treasure it.2 -
Cranky, I was widowed too quite a while ago and like you, gave lots of my husband's tools and gadgets away although people told me to sell them I felt better gifting them. He had some lovely, expensive clothes and I took lots of the warm jackets and jumpers to the local homeless hostel who were really grateful. Even though it was a very sad time, I did used to have a little smile at the thought of a homeless person in a warm and cosy jacket.3

I felt like giving things away was like giving people something to remember him by Blackcats. Also I wasn't sure of the names of some of them

No NSD today. I went and did a top up shop for fresh fruit and bread and a few other bits so that I could figure out how much extra I could pay off things once I knew what money I had left in my account. I have made payments to both credit cards and my loan today. The figures as of close of balance today are
End of Dec / Today
Card 1 £3338.44 / £2992.05
Card 2 £3478.25 / £3087.89
Loan £2158.54 / £1951.55
Rings £132.00 / £32.00
Bed £70.09 / £23.43
Total debt at 31.12. 20 £9177.32
Total debt today £8086.92 Total paid this year £1090.40
The extra loan payments that I made this month reduced the interest payable by £52.00. I'm happy wth that. I also received a lovely thank you card from my sister for buying her and her husband their wedding rings as a wedding gift. I have my March budget written down so I'm ready to see how much extra I can pay off during March.1 -
That's really great debt reduction so far this year. And £52 less interest payable is very motivating - that money now belongs to you not the financial institutions!2

One debt remaining. Home improvement loan.2 -
Thank you both of you. I can't say that I'll manage to pay this much off every month as some months have extra bills or more weeks. It's helped that this is a month without council tax. I've also been off work this week and my son is still learning from home so no school run either so very little petrol used.1

Yesterday was another NSD. I did wander out wth my "bubble" friend for a quick look at a couple of houses that are for sale as a relative of hers is moving here. He looks on the internet, then we go and look at them from outside to see location etc. One was a real possibility.
Once back home I carried on tidying. All the spare bedding is neatly folded and put away in the new ottoman. I need to go through the pile of things on the desk now and work out what can possibly be sold and what needs to either be put away or rehomed.
Today's plan also involves baking. I'm on holiday from work today so it's lovely to have a free Saturday.1 -
Enjoy your Saturday Cranky.
I learnt a new skill on the internet regarding bed linen. (I know! Definitely been locked down for far too long) but actually it's really helped me keep it tidier and change the bedding quicker. Basically after the bed linen is washed there's a way of folding it all neatly and fitting it into one of the set's pillow slips. That way it's all contained in its own "bag" , it's a matching set and it's easy to see what the design is. I used to make such a mess and waste so much time dragging out double sheets when I needed king size, mismatched pillow slips etc.3 -
Thank you @Blackcats. We're not too bad here - there's an obvious divide between my son's preferred colour scheme and mine. All the sheets are king sized as his double mattress has a topper on so king sized fit better. My favourite bedding trick was the sushi roll method of putting a king sized duvet cover on but now that my bed is against the wall I've gone back to sewing tapes inside the covers which attach to the tapes on the duvet. It stops the duvet slidng down inside the cover too.1
