Yesterday was not a NSD.  I have a gallstone and my usual antacid medication from my gp is proving totally ineffective.  I need to ask for a change of prescription when I do my repeat. Trundled into the supermarket after my covid jab (I'm a key worker) and bought some Nexium which works wonderfully well and makes me feel human again. £11.99 gulp. Also bought a tube of teething gel for the 16 year old who insists something is trying to come through his gum. Several surveys done  both yesterday and today - I will use the payments from these on my loan at the end of the month or sooner if I reach £10.

hi cranky - your employer clearly values you very highly and as the work you do is so personal that's really great feedback.
Could it be a wisdom tooth coming through 16 year old's gum?

  • You are getting close to getting under £8k debt which is great.  Good that your employer seems to value you.  Keep on making those small overpayments  particularly to the Tesco card as you are paying interest on it.

Thank you @Blackcats. He said the same. It's stopped bothering hm now after a few days of painkillers/gel but next time he has a dentist appointment (if that ever happens) I'll ask for the dentist to take a look.

Thank you too @enthusiasticsaver. It's been hard hanging on to my emergency fund this month because I want the debt to reduce but experience leads me to believe that I am better keeping those funds in my bank account.  Two years ago (just before  went back to work) I had to borrow money from my son's bank account to have the toilet fixed. That is never, ever happening again.

Today has been another NSD. One of my "panic" thoughts over the last year has been the car. I bought the one that I have now outright with some of the proceeds of selling the last house. It started to dawn on me that when this one gives up there are no funds for another. I don't want to go down the finance route but if I stick to my current plan I should have enough for a decent second hand car when the time comes. That is another source of motivation for this debt free journey.

It's been a "sort of" NSD today. I haven't used any cards and money will not leave my bank account but I felt sorry for my son's partner who hasn't had any work since we went into lockdown (student doing glass collecting usually). I paid them £10 each from the tub on the shelf to do some jobs in the house for me. Partner is not from a well off family and is very good - first one at the front door to carry things when the shopping delivery comes, that sort of thing so I like to help out if I can. I know they wouldn't take money for nothing though and I was working today so asking the teens to help out seemed like a good idea. They would have both done what I asked without payment too, which makes me happy. They're good kids.

Teens sound great - it's nice of you to help out your son's partner but keeping their dignity by "paying" for chores.
When my children were teens they were horrifically lazy, messy and unco-operative .... other than that they were great 🤣.  At least they've turned into nice humans now.
Good idea to build up a fund for a replacement car when the time comes.  I've got a "car savings pot" where I save for insurance, service, repairs etc.  I keep paying in each month and hope that will build up to a good amount for a newer car when needed although I'm very happy with the car I've currently got.  It's not flashy but it's reliable and cheap to run and gets me from A to B.
I hope you are enjoying a relaxing evening.

My car is also cheap and cheerful @Blackcats. It does the job though and so far it's reliable. I have several savings pots - car service & car related, christmas and birthday presents, my emergency fund and also birthday/christmas pots for my great niece and great nephew as I refuse to waste money posting plastic junk to another country. They get bought enough toys from the family close by anyway.

My evening is way more relaxing than my working day ha ha. I've done some online jigsaws and I'm listening to youtube. I know how to live :D

NSD's every day apart from Monday which was food shopping day. I've sorted out my son's "cupboard of doom" in his bedroom and he's happy for me to sell or to donate to charity all the things that are now in black bags in the spare room. I'm dreading starting to go through it. I could really do with putting some of my late husband's goss china collection on the bay of E too - he's only been dead 11 years! It's not the thought of parting with it all that puts me off, it's the thought of wrapping it all up and posting it.

I'm put off selling older collectibles because once they are gone you can't ever buy them again and also some of the prices don't seem to reflect the "value" bestowed on them by the owner.  We have a tea service in the family that everyone has treated with so much respect over the years, children were warned never to touch the tea set, dusting the tea set struck terror into the heart of the person required to dust.  It turns out that it's probably worth about £150 which is not to be sniffed at but it's always been treated like the Crown Jewels and I can't quite bring myself to sell it for £150.
