Great news on you getting a Virgin BT offer and good luck on getting rid of that Next card. Next is an expensive card so I would close that after repaying it so you can't be tempted in the future.

  • Hi everyone,

Thank you so much for your replies, it really means a lot to me that you're reading.
@alt80 - I've read a lot of your diary and have lurked on and off :)

Today has been a good day, an early start but a good busy day.  I have eaten all my food from my cupboards and not spent any money - I know it's only Monday but feel like I'm winning! I've had a text from Virgin confirming all is going through on my balance transfer, so I am keenly waiting for my app to update.  I'm refusing to update my signature until I've seen it in black and white.

@enthusiasticsaver - I think I will close my Next account.  I don't use the card really but tend to order online, I used it to supplement Christmas, especially for the boys because I hadn't been able to save in time following our separation.

I have yet to create my 1% colour in chart but am exhausted tonight so will possibly take a look tomorrow.  I'm going to take a quick look at my spreadsheets and then turn in.

Sounds like a good day mate. Definitely close the account better getting a 0% purchase than spending on something interest baring.

Ha re reading mine, well you know how not to live your life then lol.

Eating from stores and spending no money sounds like a good day. Maybe start up a savings pot for next Christmas?

  • Great news about the balance transfer hopefully you'll get more offers as the debt goes down. Tesco themselves are quite good at giving offers as the debt goes down.

  • Another good day today, technically a no-spend day even though I spent £655 on some things for work, I will see this back in 2 days on expenses.  I ordered it on my credit card but am 100% going to pay it straight back off as soon as it hits my account.  Absolutely no question there.  Although...I was thinking about clearing the Next account and closing it straight away and then paying the remainder off my Tesco card.  So technically I have moved £330 off 23.9% and onto 19.5%.  It will only be for a month or so, therefore I won't save a huge amount in interest but I think it might be worth it for the achievement of closing one?  What are people's thoughts on this?  I've seen people do it before and I feel I could be strict with it and do it.

It's Wednesday tomorrow and I have nothing else to buy this week until I go shopping on Saturday.  I'm really good with my shopping and sticking to my list now. I even go as far as pricing it all up on the Aldi website so I know how much it's going to cost and see if I can bring it in under budget   :grimace:

@enthusiasticsaver I do have a "present fund" but it's not an awful lot but it's a start for this year.  I am absolutely determined to see this build.

Colouring in project still on my to-do list. Must must must get to that soon.  Meanwhile I am going to settle down to bed.  I wake naturally around 4.30/5am and so bed at around 9.30 is about the latest I can get to!

  • I think clearing the Next card will give you a quick win and as long as you still pay off the remaining £325 from the expenses into the Tesco it is worth considering for the small amount  of interest saved and being able to get rid of one card.
