Snow broke my wipers

  • Whatever you do, don't try and drive anywhere before it's sorted - if you got caught in the rain and had a crash because of a fault you knew about it'd make your current state of 'skint' look like a tea party!
Too late. Not going to lie, had to nip out and it only started to rain. Tip: DON'T put the windscreen heating on if you don't have wipers...it bubbles up all the rain and makes it even worse when driving. Made it home in one peice. In fact, at a junction, I stopped and a massive peice of snow came sliding down my windscreen. That actually helped me A LOT as it wiped all the rain that built up away. The funny thing is I'm not winding you up, actually happened. Will try and fix tomorrow though.

I honestly can't believe that you admitted to that as it appears that you don't have the slightest idea about how to prepare your vehicle for safely driving in snowy conditions.
What do you think might have happened if that "massive" piece of snow either blocked your view and you couldn't clear it or it came off and hit a vehicle or cyclist?

Quite why anyone would try to clear the snow with the wipers first and then do it if they can't instead of doing it first by hand so you don't break anything I don't know other than sheer laziness.
No one ever told me you shouldn't. If I knew it could break something obviously I wouldn't have. Maybe driving instructers should teach this.
Wipers don't clear the snow off the bonnet or roof. Why didnt you do the screen when you were doing those?

Except the Highway Code that you have to know for your theory test as well as for passing your driving test does explain these things so essentially you have either forgotten or were lucky to pass your theory.
It sounds like it would be a very good idea to brush up on the rules of the road before you cause some real damage. With the snow coming off your car you were lucky it wasn't a fine & points rather than just the cost of wiper motors.

Something like this might have happened though where the arm spins around on the motor. Mine happened thanks to a monkey at Longleat. Cheap fix and not motor replacement

Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

I'm ashamed to say I never wipe them clear. In my defense hardly anyone else does around here. I live in rural Scotland. I just jump in and drive. If I was in a city I would do.

  • @HouseTargaryen, you are an absolute numpty and deserve all you have gotten.
Shame you didn't get some points on your licence to teach you a lesson.
There is no defence to what you did.
  • Sounds like a troll to me.
  • Well I think this thread is complete. Someone asks for help. People too concerned with telling OP it is there own fault. Wow. Welcome to MoneySavingExpert forum where we prefer to lambast people than help. I can just imagine you all volunteering in foodbanks. You'd be going through their bank statments: "Oooo another fish and chips. And Coop again...is that for alcohol? No food for you, it's your own fault!". As the mandalorian says "this is the way".

Who do you think is at fault for the broken wipers?
