Snow broke my wipers

The other things never ever ever to do in Winter are1) try and open a window. If they are stuck frozen, the mechanism will just break, then when it thaws, the glass drops down.2) try to pull a frozen door open by the outside handle, it will just snap off in your hand. Spray the door rubbers with silicon before it freezes, and if the door does stick, claw it open with fingers in the gap, just holding a gentle pull on the handle.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Yes because that is exactly the same isn't it. 2.9k posts and you still haven't mastered the art of empathy baza.baza52 said:
gotta love the blame culture these days.HouseTargaryen said:
Well they should unless you want to put an IQ minimum limit on drivers.williamgriffin said:Driving instructors shouldn't need to teach common sense.
I dont remember my instructor telling me not to drive off a cliff. would that be his fault if i did lol

you have to admit you did a pretty stupid thing. Sometimes in life you just have to hold you're hands up and admit it was you're own fault.
If i were you id be ringing all my friends to warn them not to do the same as i doubt their instructors warned them about it.1 -

No one ever told me you shouldn't. If I knew it could break something obviously I wouldn't have. Maybe driving instructers should teach this.feolojad said:Quite why anyone would try to clear the snow with the wipers first and then do it if they can't instead of doing it first by hand so you don't break anything I don't know other than sheer laziness. Not an unreasonable suggestion.
Do driving instructors ever reference the need to safely prepare one’s car for the road after significant snowfall?;...just clearing the windscreen and other windows is of snow accumulation is not adequate preparation.
All drivers should deal with ‘snow clearance’ properly;...an alarming number of drivers don’t,...or won’t!

Sounds like the OP is a quick flick of the wipers and off they go. Leaving everyone else to deal with the outcome.Biggus_Dickus said:HouseTargaryen said:

Just means that Skoda use better parts and the Dacia is cheap and cheerful.....as others have said i cant believe you tried clearing snow of windscreen using wipersouseTargaryen said:I used to have a Skoda and when there was snow on my windscreen in the morning, my wipers would push it all off. If it couldn't, I would go out and clear the snow. I've now got a Dacia Sandero, only a few years old, and I tried to do the same thing. Well there was a snap sound and now instead of the wipers moving, I just get a click sound for each time you'd expect them to move. The wipers themselves are loose and you can move them freely. I'm guessing this means a connection somewhere has just come loose and I need to reattach it. I literally know nothing about cars but I'm really skint right now. Do you think it's possible for me to fix this myself? Where would I start? Thanks0 -
Isn't this just a question of basic common sense and mechanical sympathy?
Stick your hand into snow, and try to push a wedge of it out of the way. It's really not easy.
Now try and do it with something the length of a pair of wiper blades...
Now stick the blades to the windscreen with a layer of ice, and try and break that initial stiction while pushing the snow out the way.
It's why EVERY SINGLE PETROL STATION has a bloody great big dump bin of two quid snow brush/ice scrapers in the winter.1 -
I'm in the middle of a court battle because my instructor never warned me about losing my keys down a drain

Probably something for the user manual to teach rather than driving instructors?0

Thanks for that, my doors froze last week and I wasn't sure how best to stop it happening again.facade said:The other things never ever ever to do in Winter are1) try and open a window. Anything else that silicon spray would be useful for? Just curious so I don't have something sitting in a cupboard that's only used once a year. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0
