I've set up a little diary on here to keep myself accountable and that's what I've started doing! Anytime I seriously consider buying something, I move the amount of that item into a savings account, feels a little bit like spending but it's a longer wait to reap the rewards as opposed to a few days shippingcathybird said:I know what you mean lindsay54v3, saving money can feel like you're not doing anything and nothing is happening! Can you make it into a sort of game, ie set up a spending account and move £5, or £2 or £1 into it for every day you don't spend? Just something small but it makes saving feel like an event and a bit exciting as opposed to "nothing happening". I "Tilly-tidy" every Wed and Sun, which is round down my current accounts and move the money into savings accounts - don't know if you've come across Tilly-tidying? Someone on MSE named Tilly came up with it a few years ago. You can round the money down to the nearest £10 or £25 or whatever you prefer. So for instance if I've got £214.75 in my current account I would round it down to £200 and move £14.75 into my savings account. The savings grow surprisingly quickly even though you're only moving small amounts and over time it becomes quite absorbing. I used to be a huge spender and now I prefer saving due to these sorts of games - they can really help.
Seeing how much I've avoided spending in one place is really great though, I can definitely agree with you on turning it into a bit of a game
