    Nothing exciting on the money front, because we're both monthly paid all the excitement happens over a few days and then its just the monthly plod for the next 28 or so days.
    We got our water bill and we owe less next month than I had in the YNAB category so I shifted £30 out thinking savings and overpayments but then BT took £20.20 out for line rental again.  We've switched away from them but they say its the final bill and they'll refund any extra. I was quite narked as the lad on the phone said we probably owed about £7. I did ask how they had the right to take money that we don't owe them, I don't think he got the point as he just kept saying they'd pay it back. This must be one of the things that makes it difficult for people on a tight budget to switch, with both this and the gas and electric we've had a month with double payments coming out and then being paid back much later. With the gas and electric it was actually two payments in one month as well as the eight legged sea creature wants paying in advance and the traditional supplier was taking it in arrears.
    I've got £18.19 available in PA and £4 waiting to clear, as soon as it clears £20 I'm going to take it out and split it between the savings and the mortgage.
    The current pots are;
    emergency fund - £227.53 (emergency is a bit of a misnomer as we have separate pots for nearly every potential emergency. I tend to build this up to £1000 and then shift it to long term savings - I might rename it immediately available extra or some such)
    Holiday fund - £1487.33 (I need to try and get this to £4000 by July)
    I also have home improvements at £700 and the car fund at £662. The home fund is going on new windows, we've had al the front of the house and the back sliding door and utility room done and have four back windows left to do. We have them replaced one at a time when we have enough.

    Hi @Porridgecat, just caught up with your diary, I was lucky enough to leave Northern Rock pretty quickly, your interest rate would make me wince, except my first mortgage was a bargin 7.50% - we've all become very used to low rates!
    All our over payments happen at once too, but I'm spending the rest of the month trying to maximise what we do with what's left.
    Very nice of your cats to be co-workers, our puss has been looking daggers at us for a year and asking when we will let her have the house back!

    Thank you to everyone for popping in.
    I've had a productive day although nothing to do with the mortgage. We finally sorted out the cupboard of Doom! I'm sure most people have one, ours is a big ugly cupboard over the stairs in the little front room. Its a relic from when we bought the house 19 years ago. We threw loads away but still have lots of financial papers etc to go through but we can see the bottom at last. I want to get someone in to quote for building us a new useful cupboard there. I'm hoping to get some dedicated storage for MrPorridge's motorcycle kit and suitcases when we're not on holiday.

    Well done for tackling the cupboard of doom - ours is the wardrobe in the spare room.  We managed to sort most of it out last summer but there's still some things we can go to make it more organised and probably a bunch more stuff that we can get rid of.  I may or may not have just binge watched The Home Edit on netflix and now want to organise everything into a rainbow of colours 😂

    Our cupboard of Doom is the built in cupboard in the study full of old electronics, and DH's weakness - leads and wires, apparently we may one day need a scart lead, or a charging cable for a pre-2000 mobile phone, or 50 metres of TV ariel cable. I just keep the doors shut, so I am very impressed you tackled yours.
